Options for Reducing the Deficit
Introduction
Certain options that come to mind when making decisions on reducing the health deficit that is currently occurring and destroying the US economy is that of the pharmacy spenditures. Why is it that we are allowing the Pharmaceutical companies to make the decisions on what products we utilize and how much is spent towards? Why wouldn’t that of those more generic brands work in them same manner, and benefit the US in the long run, and make those Pharmaceutical companies asking us to come back?
Pharmacies our ever evolving entities of our healthcare system that consume our finances and control the market. According to Pearl (2014), “Outside of health care, people can choose whether to pay inflated prices for a patent-protected technology or minimally better products. But patients don’t have that same choice – at least not without facing potentially serious health consequences” (Health Care Is Different From Retail, Needs To Be Treated As Such). If there is a generic brand of medication that can assist the patients in the same manner that the more expensive one is, then as paying customers we should have an option with discrimination. We shouldn’t allow the market to control us, but we should control the market to prevent to ensure that we receive what is expected at a reasonable price with fair treatment.
Conclusion
It is imperative that we take the necessary and precise steps towards creating a long term goal of improvement for our society’s future to ensure a long lasting economic success. According to Per Capita Healthcare Costs International Comparison (2018), " Improving our healthcare system to deliver better quality care at lower cost is critically important to our nation’s long-term economic and fiscal well-being” (para. 1).
