Every year here in the United States Healthcare Insurance continues to rise and cost the Federal Government trillions of dollars. “The federal government provides budgetary resources
for health care in three ways—through mandatory outlays for health care programs, subsidies for health care that are conveyed through reductions in federal taxes, and spending for health programs funded through annual discretionary appropriations.” According to "Options for Reducing the Deficit: 2017 To 2026"(2016), Due to the growing population here, is why healthcare continues to be on the rise. Option 5 in the Options for Reducing the Deficit 2017-2026 is to repeal the individual health insurance mandate this will help reduce the federal budget deficit by 416$ billion between 2018-2026. The "Options for Reducing the Deficit: 2017 To 2026" (2016)
In the United States citizens are required to have healthcare insurance and if you can’t afford healthcare you can get a penalty at the end of the year when you file your taxes. Not only does the government spend trillions of dollars on healthcare, individuals do to, just because you have health insurance through your employer, doesn’t meant it’s free it still comes out of their paychecks and it usually a couple hundred dollars so they can have healthcare for themselves and their family. I think individuals should have the option to have healthcare or not without being penalized. Healthcare should be based off of one’s needs.
For example, I don’t feel the need to have healthcare insurance because I rarely get sick, and I’m in good health. Unlike others that get sick often and have health issues I feel as though they need the healthcare more. I don’t think the Federal Government should make individuals have healthcare especially when they know they can’t afford it to being with. In other countries they offer free healthcare which means it is free or they have to pay very minimal for the healthcare services, or universal healthcare which they would provide health insurance to majority of the country. ("Countries with Free or Universal Healthcare", 2019). Healthcare should be used as needed and use a pay as you go system. We need a better healthcare system in the US so that people can get the proper care that they need and not have to worry about medical bills, and other medical expenses. “The U.S. does not have a uniform health system, has no universal health care coverage, and only recently enacted legislation mandating healthcare coverage for almost everyone.” According to "The U.S. Health Care System: An International Perspective"(2016), I think the U.S. should look at the healthcare system on an international level and how other countries provide free healthcare so that individuals can benefit from it here.
