Company Cell Phone or Personal Cell Phone?

My region will no longer allow us to expense anything for personal cell phones. Isthis the same for all regions or is my RBD being a pain in the ass?

At one time, we could expense up to $150 telecom (Cell + high speed internet etc)

Then it was $25 for personal cell phone or we can order a company phone.

Now, we cannot expense anything for personal cell phones, and my boss wants me to get a company phone, which would be direct billed to BMS I think.

What should I do? I don't WANT an 2nd phone, I will never give up my own personal phone as I've had the phone number for 6 or 7 years when I moved to this city and I don't want to deal with changing phone numbers.

I like the idea of getting work emails on my phone, which I think I can do on my personal phone if I sign up but I haven’t done that and now I don’t' think I should if I'm not getting $ back for it anymore.

What should I do? I suppose if I got a company cell phone managers could look at who I talk to, how long, and where the calls are made from/to. This isn't a big deal for me, as I do work every day, but some days I don't have time to see my first doc until I get the kids to school and drive to a clinic that has a doctor actually in. This might not be till 9 or 10am.

9 or 10? Please. Here I sit going into my first call at 7:34 checking out cp on my personal I-phone and you ask such a stupid question. Guess you won't be going over the bridge in March.......

Since when is this a regional decision? There is an official list available of company expense policies that spells out how the policies for each type of expense. I would obtain a copy of it and see what it says regarding telecom expenses.

Also, just completed January expense report and have heard nothing like this.

I think the poster said some days, and if you can see doc's at 734 every morning your a liar or have the best territory in the world. Most of mine are on rotation at the Hospitals until at least 9am, sometimes 10am in rural areas.

If I were you OP, I would not get a company cell phone.

I woudl keep two phones. period. Have calls forwarded to your personal phone and never text/email anything personal from your BMS phone. (BMS=Being Monitored Steadily)

If you are somewhere you arent supposed to be...like....home at 4pm...then use your personal phone. Call it the cost of having a job with flexability.

That is NOT company policy. $150 allowance for company communication whether it's a company phone or not. BMS no longer requires company cell phones. Let me guess, your RBD is either JH or CY. I'm betting on JH because I heard he is a first class asshole, and even his peers hate him. Hopefully April will fix that problem.

Ok, Biff or is it Bunny. I'll type slowly so you understand. Keep your own phone and number for personal use and take the BMS phone for all things company related. If the hammer ever comes down you still have your phone and number. Besides, what is the cost these days of a phone and a bazillion minutes per month? You'll look like you are cost conscious and you'll preserve a level of privacy. I kept my own phone for years figuring I'd rack up the AMEX points (not at BMS)- it only serves as another tool if your manager wants to f'you over.

So if you do not have a BMS cell phone, you can charge more than 25.00 to BMS for your cell phone. I thought you could only charge 25.00 if you did not go with the corporate phone. Please advise

Yeah, I just found that out too. You can individually charge Internet, cell, fax etc up to 150 or (for the sake of ease) just charge $150 to your cell. The latter has to pass muster with your DM and you, of course, need the receipts for the latter. I recently found out that just charging the $150 to the cell (given that is is $150) and omitting the individual expenses works too. It can be a time saver when doing your expense account.

There is just no consistency. My coworker told me there is now no such thing as personal or corporate cell phones and that I can expense up to 150 dollars a month total on any communication expenses. I tried to put this through on my Feb expense report and my manager rejected it, saying I can still only get reimbursed 25 dollars for my personal cell. She then sent me the guidelines and they said nothing about personal phones!Only that we can get reimbursed 150/month total for internet/wireless internet and BMS cell phone. I am so confused. Since my manager is so strict, I am going to have to stick to the 25 dollar reimbursement for my personal cell. She has always wanted the entire phone bill, even for my personal cell, in order to justify part of the bill as work related. I am so tired of all this...

I thought that you could only charge $25 to a personal phone if it was a Nokia or Motorola, but if it was a Blackberry you could charge unlimited amounts if it was a data plan. But then I heard that the limit for a Blackberry was $35.89 unless you had a data plan, then it was $89.34 as long as you were not surfing the net from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Then my DBM told me that all that info was correct except the reimbursement dropped 5.5% for every 15 minutes before 8 am or after 5 pm. I was so confused I called the help desk and the lady in the Phillipines said as long as I was surfing Phillipino web sites, reimbursement was unlimited, except on the 3rd Saturday of every other month, from 6 pm to 7 am, when you have to reduce your reimbursement rate by 7.6% for every 10 1/2 minutes after 3:30 pm. After taking that info to my DBM, they finally relented and said that if I was using the web surfing capability of my Blackberry it would be ok to use the following formula to calculate reimbursement, A-C/ D*f = (RR/Z) then if RR/Z > 0.13765 you can get 100% reimbursement, but if RR/Z < 0.013765 you only get reimbursed for 1/32 of the total no-web surfing costs.

MY DBM told me that the IC team had developed the cell phone reimbursement plan after putting the finishing touches on the IC plan for Q1, before starting work on the IC plan for Q2-4.

Now it's all crystal clear.

Wow!!!...if you spent more time analyzing your data and calls you probably would be well on your way to another more lucrative job. Let me guess....female rep with 2 maybe 3 kids at day care. Husband has a chump job with no benefits so your dragging down the team worrying all day about crap like this. Move on dead weight

It definitely has the marks of Rita all over it.

Your manager is a control-freak. Our DBM gives us $150 to expense any communication charges, cell phone, fax, internet. It doesn't matter - just as long as you are getting the corportate discount with AT&T or Verizon.

The rest of Pharma is being tracked via cell phone. Internal GPS that cannot be turned off. They will give you the new company phone. They will see everywhere you are. Welcome to the world of New Pharma.

Hmm, let me guess....male rep with 2 maybe 3 kids at home with your stay at home wife, Wife has no job and total identity is cleaning house, driving mini-van and coffee with the other SAHMs. She's so pissy staying at home and you're so miserable because because you realize that you do nothing more than what I do and I make the same amount of money you do.....Why don't YOU move on?
