Cobra coverage

It would hard to have it in by the 15th when it hasn't come to me yet. And my understanding of Cobra is that you do have 45 days. Who is saying it has to be in by the 15th?

It is due within 45 days of your termination of coverage date shown on the form. I just got mine yesterday and completed it. If you have any coverage that the company is paying for, you need to write that on the form and send it in.

Why would everyone's insurance be cancelled in the first place? This is heartless. Personally I have had Cobra options before, and the company never cancelled the insurance and that made you sign releases and jump through hoops to get them to cover it. Paying for everything out of pocket while you wait for them to get all the paperwork and communication cleared up, which for this new company is a stretch, then submit all of your out of pocket costs back to the insurance company and wait again to get reimbursed? Wow, what a pity.

F.Y.I - I just spoke with AETNA and was told revised COBRA paperwork was put in the mail Monday January 21st since the previous mailing did not state that coverage would be company paid for the severance period. In the meantime, I was told to send in the incorrect paperwork to get the process started, then follow up with the new.

so now there is new paperwork? None of the people trying to handle this are competent.

I still haven't received the "new paperwork" and Aetna will not confirm that my previous paperwork was received or is being processed. They just refer me back to HR at Medicis/Valeant who tell me I need to follow up with Aetna.
Sounds like a run-around.
We shouldn't need to file COBRA for coverage deducted from a payroll check.

Welcome to the new world in which someone like hussein obama could actually get elected.

Valeant is famous for "losing your paperwork by accident" which is another way of saving money. Ask anyone who has been laid off by Valeant how many times this happens.
When I called our COBRA provider they said they have never seen a more confused operation ever with the number of people calling in to complain.

Update. Now Valeant is switching to United Health before my severance period is ended and United is saying they have no record that it's company paid. Now I'll have to go through this all over again.
