Chicago

I am thinking about applying for a position in Chicago and wondered what the managers are like here. I have clinical experience in the hospital and a couple years of sales experience right out of college and heard davinci was a good way to get into device. How is the pay and the hours.

Thanks

Actually, I am not a troll. I say who I say I am and wanted some honest feedback and thought I could get some help from some current reps. How in the heck are you supposed to find out about the culture of a company and what it is like to work for them if you don't ask!! I don't want to make a mistake but do want to get into device.

Okay
Then be a professional and show that you pursue what you want and are not afraid to hunt down and tackle your objectives.

Find and question a REP with the company!

Ask good questions
Make an impression and close for an opportunity!

Or post anonyMOUSly on a message board

Go get your big boy pants on

No, you're an asshole. When not already in device, how do you expect this person to meet the rep? What, just walk into an OR?? LinkedIn? I highly doubt a rep is going to reply on LinkedIn in time (or ever) for this interviewee to get a response prior to their interview.

Chicago is a great team to be a part of. The CSD is the best in the company, and his team is always at the top. Not sure what territory is available, but ask how many surgeons are already trained, and who are the targets. If your territory doesn't have a lot of growth opportunity, you will struggle. There are 3 managers in Chicago (2 women, and a guy). You DON'T want to work for the guy. He has no clue how to let go of the reigns, and motivate his people. He's a micro-manager and expects blood from a turnip. He has no clue how to inspire and motivate his people.

I agree, it's embarrassing that this company is now "a good place to get into device". We used to be the hardest company to get into. When I started, I felt like I "made it". I was surrounded by the smartest, most strategic & talented reps in the industry. The toxic culture (which is starting to change, depending on your region), lack of growth, and decreased income potential has forced all the good people out. I'm not sure how the really tenured reps (10+ years) are still doing it.

Me again...

Thank you!!! I appreciate the honest feedback and the insight about the Chicago management team. I have heard that there was going to be a territory open but don't know which manager it would be under. Unfortunately, I have also heard that one of the female managers is difficult to work for so that means 2/3 are questionable. Not good odds and maybe something I should stay away from.

To the jerk who suggested that I contact a current rep...what the heck do you think I am doing? Aren't you a current rep? You made the choice to be negative in your comments instead of being helpful and no, I actually don't think you are right. What makes you think that I haven't pursued other avenues to get my questions asked? Maybe I am just trying to cover all of my bases and to get as much information as possible. I bet you are part of that "toxic culture" that I read so much about on these boards! I feel sorry for you if your knee-jerk reaction is to bash someone asking for help....your poor family.

From what I understand, she's not as bad as the guy. At Intuitive, it's all about managing your manager. Tell them what they want to hear, but manage your accounts the way you see fit. I still think Intuitive is one of the best device companies to be in. Pay is good, and the stock options are always nice. Hard to make money on stock now, but if you stick around, you'll profit.

New poster here...

How sad is it that ISI is now the way into med device! All that means is that there is no selling left to do and you just babysit your manager and accounts. YOU ALL know it is true. We just hang around and peek into cases and act like we are real important. The reality is that the accounts for the most part run themselves. Oh and you only have 3-4 accounts, enjoy the gym, golf or whatever you do for fun.

So to answer your question Mr/Ms potential candidate. Go for it! Great time to get your feet wet and learn a lot of procedures, make contacts and decent money.

Good luck!

Sounds like a dream gig then!

I would advise against working for SH. Zero integrity and is really a weird person.

Yes. Stay away from Hayes. I agree very odd person. And thinks she's knows what she's talking about when she has never done the job. And beware of JM he is her little minion. She should have been demoted by now or fired. Way to go MM
