Changing Tomorrow Day

I was wondering what everyone things about this?

Sounds like there is a lot of pressure for people to volunteer while wearing T-Shirts which are smeared with the corporate logo.

Sounds like a disingenuous propaganda opportunity to me...

I fully support volunteering and charity, but on my own terms, not those of my company.

Any thoughts?

agree with the above post.

It is a very nice thing that Astellas encourages volunteering and even offers ALL employees paid days off to pursue their own volunteer opportunities.

Changing Tomorrow day is a company wide event. Be proud, wear the t-shirt. It isnt about propaganda.

I agree with the OP.

Last year we all had to wear tshirts and lots of pictures were taken which ended up on the website. New shirts this year.

It is nice that we get 5 days to volunteer to a charity of our own, but being forced to wear the cooporate logo while volunteering is a bit too much in my opinion. Also i was told that w had to volunteer so it is not really a choice.

I disagree with the OP. Altho I think much of what Astellas is doing these days is wrong, I have no argument with Changing Tomorrow Day. Think about it - one of the biggest challenges for all of us working in pharma these days is the image of our industry. We are taking hits left and right in this election year. Every political ad implies that we are greedy, self-serving and evil. It seems prudent of companies like ours to do a liitle community serve AND to be smart enough to publicize it. I have no problem with this little PR move. Plus, no one is forcing anyone to participate. So if its not your gig - take a pass on it. Meanwhile, I will appreciate a little positive news regarding pharma.

Yes, nice to APPEAR be a good corporate citizen. Most employees in the group I belong to have way too much on their plates to even think of taking those volunteer days -- they would be too far behind in work when they got back!!! Same thing with vacation -- we earn it, but actually taking it is another question. I am not a workaholic, but if I were to take all my vacation days and volunteer days, I would not be able to meet my group's objectives and I would fall behind -- something wrong with this picture. Work/life balance are just buzzwords and not reality throughout the company. I could be a "socially responsible" employee and volunteer, or I can meet my objectives -- not both, unfortunately. It would be interesting to see an accurate report of how many employees actually are able to take their volunteer time.

There is really somehing wrong with the Home Office at Astellas! I'm been with 4 diff. companies + Astellas. There is a dark, evil in Deefield - I can't make up my mind if it's somehow a Chicago Pharma mentality vs east coast...or what. It's subjective - but something is very wrong with the culture of this company

How about how high expectations that are set for the salesforce vs how low they are set for home office. The mentality is if you make it to home office you hit it big vs being a grunt in the salesforce. In other companies being in the salesforce is elite.

Shut up you waste of white blood cells!!! Sounds like you may be a problem/issue if you have been with 5 different pharma companies in your career. Why don't you try holding onto a job instead of complaining about one. Or better yet, go sell vacume cleaners or washing machines at Sears, probably more linked to your skills!!

Wow! Sooner or later, you’ll see the dark, evil side of Astellas. In the meantime, work on your spelling -- before you apply to any other pharma companies or the “vacume” department at Sears.
