Changes...

Believe me, I would leave if I had even a clue where else I could go. With the distribution picture getting very muddy, and all the manufacturer consolidation, my direction would not be back toward animal health. Add in the 35% commission reduction over the previous 2 years, deduction for car mileage lost, and continued margin cuts from mfgs., I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Confirmed that 3 more reps have quit this week, and those are just the ones I’ve heard about. Outside sales force is down to about 220 including both sides. Management continues to slap themselves on the back for a job well done - mistreatment of reps, ongoing warehouse / SAP issues, lack of any imagination or original ideas to grow the business... well done.

Former Fort Dodge managers are killing the company. They destroyed FD, but for some reason MWI thought it was a great idea to hire them. Not sure who the bigger idiots are, former FD managers or MWI for hiring them.

Wow ! Who in their right mind would quit the Mountian of Wicked Idiots ? It's a great place for so many reasons. You do like running in the hamster wheel trying to reach the moving target of your goals right ? Have a little carrot break and try again.

They were fired for horrid performance like 90% of the people that are gone.

You have no idea what you are talking about and obviously don’t work for MWI. MWI has lost a lot of very good reps, including the three most recent departures. I’m not sure who you are and how much you sell, but I seriously doubt it’s on their level.

I’m not sure how everyone else feels (although I suspect we mostly share the same sentiment), but the company has evolved into an organization unrecognizable from only 10 years ago. Rewind to the good ol days when we actually sold products, and the biggest worry was, well... I guess we didn’t really have any big worries. We had great commission checks, loved our vendors, were treated fair by the company, had fun doing the job - maybe the best work / life career balance one could have.

In contrast, fast forward to 2019 - commission checks are the worst ever and actually going down from year to year, in spite of selling more each year (just received my W2, least I’ve made since 1999). Apathetic vendors, except a select few that actually still care. Not treated fairly at all by the company with, among other factors too numerous to mention, commission cuts and continued holdbacks of vendor paid commission and spiffs by corporate (yes, we know it’s happening, vendor partners have personally told us). Maybe the worst result of all this is the dissatisfaction with the job which has evolved into a dog and pony show of software, systems, GPOs, borderline bribery, and downright shameless begging for the business. Gone are the proud days of MWI being the market leader with the small company feel and exemplary customer service. I’m done.

Maybe if you’d help your vendors gain NEW business, they may not be as apathetic towards you and/or MWI. Simply taking orders for existing product placements or providing information about a promotion, doesn’t merit an extraordinary pay scale. Your inside folks can do this. Help your vendor partners GROW their business and I think you’ll be happy with your pay and local rep cooperation.

It’s tough to play the “flavor of the month” club driven by corporate, meaning one month Merck is the hot vendor, then it’s Elanco, then it’s Zoetis (yes, Zoetis, now that we’ve badmouthed them for years about paying nothing to us).

I work with most vendor reps and have no issues taking them into my clinics, but in the end, as a distributor rep, it really ends us being a grab for more existing business or new customers, not switching a clinic from one flea/tick product or vaccine to another. I really couldn’t care less what they buy, just buy it from me.

So I’m thinking with the new quarter beginning, new changes are on the horizon. After I read that Patterson laid off 30 reps (not that that’s been substantiated), MWI is always quick to play follow the leader. I think BI will be quick to announce that they are going totally direct, and that will signal the beginning of the end for distribution. More layoffs, pay structures drastically changed, and more pressure to sell services that are distribution driven.
