CCR reps placed as S1s

Oh, for crying aloud. It's a job. Most of the CCR people are not going to do squat about some BS ranking/placement. Who cares? Really. It's a sales job with a free car and lots of easy drive time. Not much out there for us lifers. I for one, will do my job until they tell me I no longer have one. In the meantime, calling on labs to sell a truly remarkable product is still fun. For the kids, if you want a career go and do something else.

I'm a "lifer" too...and I couldn't have said it better! We remember the "good old days", and we'll ride the train to the last stop (even if it isn't like the old times). But for the younger folk, best to look elsewhere...

Hey CCR old timer, it is a big deal when your target pay out continues to go in the opposite direction and you are now only paid bonus on an annual basis. I get where you are going with your comments but others in the group are not in a financial position to go backwards. All we ask is to be treated fairly in the process.

If you want to be treated fairly, you're working for the wrong company. That Merck hasn't existed for a couple of years.

Start looking for something else now...on your terms. Find it, then leave the quickly sinking USS Merck and be thankful to have it behind you.

How about layoff time. S2 is a better spots than S1 dont you think? Resume is being polished this weekend and the search will begin. Payout difference is a bummer for the house payments.

Very few companies are paying well these days especially in pharma or biotech. Where they used to offer 85 and 90 thousand salary ranges, they are now at 60 and 70. Everyone spins a great bonus tale and then I find out no one hits it but a few luck ones. If you cannot afford your house on 100K, then you are stretched too thin. Everyone should have already scaled back as the economy IS NOT getting better. There are 140K out of work reps, companies do not give a crap and have a large pool of experience if you leave. Heck, they can even pay the new person less. There is virtually no incentive to give out more money, not from Merck and not any place else. Talk to some that have left. The grass is not that much greener. Being happy is a choice.

Personally, I agree we are all lucky to have jobs. I have recently learned that I too am an S1. My issues is with the annual bonus. We are sales people......pay us quarterly or bi-annually. I don't even care that my bonus potential is less..... just pay it more frequently. I am shocked that this is not an issue for people. There is not one other pharma company that pays bonus annually!

While I don't agree with the decrease in bonus or that it is paid annually, you should have financed your house payments, home insurance, etc. based on your salary alone. It seems like you overextended yourself.

You can ride the gravy train only so long. Most if not all will be displaced soon, I suspect after November and the severance date. Having a low rating will really hurt us when we are trying to find new jobs. Companies only want to see your most recent rating, the most 3 years and having a low rating will make it difficult especially with all the great candidates out there.

For good CCR reps there are good other jobs out there in device or with smaller biotechs. However, many of you may have heard what happened with J n J laying off all of their cordis reps in the lab. Many former ccr reps moved to cordis in the last few yrs. Good luck to people who leave and do not listen to others that state it is impossible to do.

You have been saying that for years and you are still there selling Integrilin. Face it, no one is beating your door down to hire you. Plus the market is very difficult right now, probably the worst in 30 years.

I agree with you on the ratings. An S2, S3 are better and higher than S1. Unless somebody is overpaid or old why would they keep the S1 instead of an S2 or 3?

The reason to keep an S1 is purely based on economics, why pay someone more of a salary if the job is already being done by a lesser rank. S1-S3 is not new as there are pharma companies out there that already have these designations. What is the ongoing concern is the lack of bonuses across the board as this is a for profit company last time I checked.

Integrilin down another 20% 2nd quarter. Does it really matter what anyone was rated??
