If you have worked at Abbvie for 18 years and are under 50 but grandfathered into the old Abbvie plan can you retire if you have a medical condition? I need to retire but don’t have the age yet. Their must be an option to retain my medical benefit.

No, you must be a minimum of 50. It was changed to 55 approx 15-16 years ago. If you have a medical condition then your option is long term disability

I suggest you call HR. There's a new retirement guide book available on the portal too. It's somewhat complicated because different people have different criteria based on the acquisition agreemtns made at the time (e.g. KOS, BASF, Solvay, etc). The HR person I spoke to a few weeks back was friendly, and NO, I don't think it triggers any kind of flag telling the company anything more than I'm utilizing my right to know what's what so I can plan for my future.
