Bye bye Restasis

They laid off half of them. If you think this is a good thing for us, you’ve lost your damn mind. Restasis going off patent means a generic attempt will be required prior to use of branded Xiidra for many insurance plans. Is there a massive difference between Xiidra and cyclosporine. Maybe. Is that difference worth $165 a month for a Medicare patient (and that’s a COVERED patient) vs $99 for a 3-month supply of generic? No freakin way. But instead of being concerned, we hired an additional 20 headcount of KAMs plus some reimbursement specialists and god knows what else. I really hope John and Mike have something up their sleeve and a new product coming our way soon, otherwise I don’t know how it makes sense to keep a sales force together of our size.

It never made sense to have a Salesforce this size. Territories have always been TOO SMALL and too many reps, not just now.

This is the best post I’ve seen on here in a long time. It is mind blowing to me how there has been no communication AT ALL from corporate about the generic version of restasis and Imprimis product, Klarity. This is going to have a big effect on us. I’m sure our quotas will be even higher this year than last qtr and nobody will acknowledge the big elephants in the room.

As an Allergan (Restasis) rep that was laid off yesterday, this post perfectly encapsulates the situation. The Allergan Eyecare salesforce was severely bloated for years (3-4 reps per territory), and I realized shortly after I was hired in May of 2016 that it was only a matter of time before I was laid off.
3-4 Allergan reps in each territory calling on the same doctors with the same message every week is absolutely absurd; especially for a drug that has been out for over 15 years, and is not exactly complicated to understand.
I'm actually glad I was laid off..I received a nice 6 month separation/severance package, and if I find another job in the meantime, I get to bank a lot of bonus cash! Best of luck to you all!!

Xiidra is toast within the next year.
Just like in another post....when Restasis has a generic version then insurance will just require a Restasis failure before approving Xiidra.
Plus if docs know that patients can get Restasis for a fraction of the cost of the me too Xiidra then you know what they’ll prescribe
