You'll get destroyed if you go agency. How does distributor support of Bayer look to you? Merial is pushing more into distributor warehouses everyday - smart move on their part.
No. Just ask Idexx, distributors reps will be thrilled if we go direct ! No worries about competition !
If product is in dist warehouse and they take title, then they are VERY motivated to sell, as it cost them something to add the product to inventory- we used to call it 'shelf pressure'- over stock a local vet with a gross of canine otic prep at a deep discount and they will find ways to use it- same idea- on agancy, the dist gets a cut if they sell, but it doesnt cost them anything up front, so no risk involved- if they own it, they have to move it!
Idexx is so much better off since they dropped distribution. Don't believe it.... just check out their stock in the last year.

Distribution is all about getting paid..... nothing else. Idexx has saved a TON of $ plus hired more of the people that can get the job done....their own.
Distribution used to be a valuable partner for manufacturers. Now they truly suck. Even the seasoned reps are worthless. We all need to follow Idexx's example.
Now that we have the vaccines going direct is the best option as distribution reps can't or Don't sell. Anyone can take a freaking order, quite frankly I could do without all the whining from them as well. LET'S GO DIRECT!!!
Like it did Idexx, are they buried? They seem to be getting along just fine without the excellent sales support of distribution. How is your paycheck without the handout you used to get from them?
The vaccine market is a whore's market. And who are the biggest whores? They will be incentivized beyond belief. Just wait and see.
I don't care what their people say just what the numbers show and the financials prove, it was a smart move. Everyone was so sure Idexx would have to go back through distribution, well not going to happen. I would expect manufacturers to follow suit in the coming years as they figure out they can ship and bill for products just like distribution does, as they add no benefit beyond that service. Thanks for nothing distribution!
