Bunions

On my right foot I have a bunion and it causes a slight burning sensation by it. I went to the orthopedic and he said to avoid heels, etc.

Does anyone have these annoying bunions and what do you do so they do not progress to where one needs surgery?

I'm 48 and developed a huge bunion on my right foot when I was in my 20's. I'm 5'2", so I always wore the 3-4" heels. My podiatrist said the same as yours: avoid the heels. Since then, I moved to no higher than 2" heels if it's a sandal-type shoe, and wear wedges a lot (3-4" still sometimes, since they don't cause the foot flex of a straight-on 4" heel). My bunion has never progressed from where it was 20 years ago.

I rarely wear flat shoes, because I think they're ugly, and also because they don't provide enough support. You can find so many cute wedge shoes that will not aggravate your bunion.

Or you can go through the surgery, which is painful and a long healing procedure, but produces terrirfic results.

I had bunion surgery. I am not going to stop wearing heels-- period.

I'm not encouraging you to have the surgery but since all surgery is painful, personally I wouldn't let that deter me.
