Bonus pool

They will withhold the bonus pool until the Obama universal health care plan is on the table.

This could dig into Amgens profits 1-2 billion? Things will be changing very fast...

True that the bonus pools will be decreased. All that the American population voted for is happening with the transformation of America under this administration. All parts of healthcare including pharma will have a part in it. Pharmaceutical industry is going to shrink with the healthcare plans being proposed. People will no longer see those bonuses that they are used to reasearch and development of new medications will be limited and pharma reps will be let go. Sad to say but this is what is going to be happening and Amgen will hold onto the $$$$ till they see further what is going on.

I hope the deathcare industry gets exactly what it deserves.
The margins are too high and go into waste not into effective R&D.
If truly the big salaries are justified then limit them to the R&D folks. All the others are just interchangeable overhead. Why pay an accountant 50% above market? How many Directors without any direct report can earn 70000 bonuses?

You're upset because either you are unemployed or have a very low salary. We're doing just fine over here and elated to be making tons of money!!!!!!!!!

You are correct in your thinking: All the pharma companies in the USA have already came forward to the Government and offered 80 billion in total cuts to help with this transition. With a company the size of Amgen it will be 2 billion in product cost cuts, Pfizer will be 3 billion, JNJ will be 5 billion. This will include all the medical device companies.
