Bob McMahon getting choked up...I'm so proud of everyone

I was let go in 2009...and little did I know, but the stock options that I earned, and the majority of them not worth the paper they are written on are not yours forever. You see the other day I was going to exercise 200 options for a thousand dollar gain, and I was informed that Merck took them back...200 f'in stock options...probably went to Bob McMahon's portfolio or one of the other crooks that ran this company into the ground...that's OK Mother F----R Merck...I hope all of the Bob McMahon's and Dick Clark's of Merck never get to enjoy one f'n day of their retirement...200 options at 32.00 rot in hell Merck.

I am also retired and Evil Mother did not take the stock options away. They expired. Yes, they gave me hundreds of them priced so high that for a decade I could not cash them in at all.

That is what big companies do. They cannot wait for 2012. They know the pay structure for SP employees are higher than Merck’s. SP employees have been in the crosshairs for years now and they will fire the bullets in 2012. I bet they hope people don't take the package. Even without the options the best thing you could have done was get out. I am sure the quality of life is better and you added years to your life.

What do you mean by "I bet they hope people don't take the package"??? Since when do Merck (or "legacy SP") employees have a choice? You are either retained (and free to leave on your own, without a package), or you are let go during a round of layoffs (in which case you qualify for a package). Please explain...

that's how merck sells it's sack of lies to employees: "yes our salaries are lower than the median of most pharma our size, but you have career longevity" and: " we don't pay the bonuses that other companies do but we give stock options, because, are you ready?...wait for it...you have career longevity." we always used to ask if we could just have the cash. people will soon "exercise their options" to look else were for new careers.

That was true until a few years ago. Less insane and less income but more job security. It is no longer the case.

a lot of the problem is they stopped hiring quality people and critical thinkers. They hired someone's friend and family members who needed a job. That brought down R&D and now everyone at Merck is paying the price. The pipeline is gone and all that is left is a shell with friends and family. The sales teams should be commended because they are doing a great job with just about nothing as far as product. Merck bought SP because of the pipeline (intellectual property) only to find that SP was worse off than Merck after the merger. In 2012 you will see Merck have massive cuts hopefully rather than trickling out layoffs for years to come. What Merck needs to do is cut once and cut deep.

I can't believe someone is typing the truth. I left R&D 3 years ago for a smaller company. There is not a single leader there. The quality control is a joke, some woman is the manager and she can't manager herself let alone anyone else. I can't count the number of times I had to say "do you see what your doing wrong". Working at Merck R&D means your the laughing stock of the big pharma world.

Remember the 'idiot' that Smerck once paid to come to the annual meetings and tell us how the stock options were going to make us rich! Think he was a big buddy of 'McClitock' and he worked for Halverson Associates or some such firm! Look what a big friggin joke that is now! Some poor bastard got in trouble at the Orlando meeting for challenging him on his slides and stayed in Mikie's dog house!

So when dipshit mgmt. ask you to:"give 110%, make that one more call, stay out late on Fri. (while they're already at happy hour), work a convention on a week-end" take on an extra assisgment, etc. etc. do you spring up like a jumping jack banging you hands togather? Or do you think about the fact that merck is the industry leader in layoffs?

When we all finally realize that we are employed in the most deceiving part (maybe tax is more deceptive) of an increasingly deceptive industry maybe we all will behave as if truth in this industry is rare as hen's teeth. Those that we are getting our information from are selected largely because they can be "trusted" by the mother ship with handling and disseminating deception. These selected few are pros at it and they are Merck's friend first, not ours. Don't expect miracles of candor from them or from such an organization. They and Merck will take, take, and take until there is nothing left. And when they finally discard us, they will try to make us believe that it is for the best for Merck, and therefore a good thing after all. Sorry and all that.

Merck is the Enron of pharma.
