We are in for some big news this week. Abbvie will announce a 2;1 stock split. Split price will be approximately $62-$63 per share. Congrats to all who hold a large amount of shares. While the losers are waiting for a $1000 bonus from tax reform, we have been given something worth so much more.

There's no need to increase number of outstanding shares to decrease stock. Market capitalization and company value won't change. We don't need small investors to bite on a cheaper price ad there will be little liquidity in the market. Ain't gonna happen BANK IT !
 




It would be a beautiful thing if it were true. Based on current $123 price if it did indeed split, I would expect no less than $70-$72 share price coming out of the gate.
 




Doubt it will happen that soon, but it could. Remember it has to first be approved by the BOD. Don't see that in short term. Have they scheduled a meeting within next 30 days?


There is also the unintended behavior of the day traders and small guy investors... ..when you lower the share price (by a split} many use the 'dump load' option (ie in program trading) and sell off. That has the undesired effect of actually lowering share price.

So someone struggling, gets a grand that is desperatly needed and they are a loser ?
Abbvie employees have got NOTHING yet, so what's the "something worth so much more" ?
