For all of you Paul Reider fans a new NAS Award:

Awards

NAS Award for Chemistry in Service to Society

Established by E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company

Awarded for contributions to chemistry, either in fundamental science or its application, that clearly satisfy a societal need.

Recipient:

Paul J. Reider (2011)
For his contributions to the discovery and development of numerous approved drugs, including those for treating asthma and for treating AIDS.

Zero from Amgen though.

Funny thing, he did not discover any drugs at Merck. Singular came from Merck Frost and the HIV drugs came from West Point. He did run an impressive process group in RY and made amazing contributions on the development side.

Zero success at Amgen. The RP modality independence model failed.

Zero success at Amgen as there were no, and still are no, decent med chem leaders. PJR did start to move CR&D in the right direction but failed to hire a good successor. Hence the cluster of dopes now "running" the show
