Best Places to Work

Well I can see that the impact from Roche on Genentech has already changed Genentech. A company that was always in the top 10 Best Places to Work is now down to 34 or something like that. Amazing that the companies int the top 10 are all still there but us.
I doubt the ranking will improve ever again.

Then why don't you go to one of those 10 companies and quit your whining here? Oh that's right, you were one of the severed who is already employed by someone who cares about you . again shut up

You fool, dont you know that those surveys and rankings are pure malarkey. They are all self proclaimed, and coached. Of course during the time of the surveys, there was talk of massive pending layoffs, tons of stress, etc. Your biggest problem is that you fail to realize that "genentech" exists in name only for branding purposes. Oh by the way, your current company "Roche" was also always in the top ten.

No, Roche was never in the top 10. I used to work for Roche years ago before going to GNE, and at that time, they made the top 100 for the first time (like #96). Sooooo different in benefits, culture, salaries, etc....Roche could never compare, hence why I left and went to GNE...

Oh yeah, and Roche wouldn't tolerate phags who say "hence" -that's another reason why I left. Ok, that's the main reason I left. bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

First of all, after all dust settled prior to the merger, the roche benefits were apparently better:

- More vacation (regardless of phony genentech sabbatical)
- Higher 401K contribution
- Lifetime medical at retirement (if more than 10 years)
- Pension for life
- Medical/Rx/dental/vision benefits at least as good

The only thing that genentech had better were stock options, and that benefit became worthless years ago. The culture thing is nebulous at best; I dont know of a single legacy Roche person who has said, whoopee, the culture is so much better; regardless of the blue genes.

Anyway, again, the rankings that you refer to are worthless, and meaningless. Just mind your own business and move on.

Not only is this a senseless post, since companies harang their employees to participate, including genentech; but your assertion is incorrect; here is a link to the rankings(http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2010/full_list/):

- Roche (genentech) ranked number 19, not 34
- Roche is the only Bio/Pharma company in the top 20
- Roche is one of only 2 Bio/Pharma companies in the top 100 (Novo Nordisk).

So, based on your comment, you would have to say that Roche (Genenetch) is the best Bio/Pharma company to work for in the USA. By the way, you and I both know that genentech rankings were going lower each year, well before they were swallowed up by Roche.

Whats driving this? Most of the senior people in Roche now are legacy genentech. Hmmmmm! Dont blame the boys in Basel, this train was coming off the track well before Roche bought us.

Well, apparently you are wrong....medical/dental/vision, much worse, and paid hundreds more out of pocket each month, medical was 80/20 with high deductibles....pension for life, yes, only after 5 years, 401K was higher at GNE, bonuses were also much higher at GNE, and NO on vacation!! We got 2 weeks plus a "forced" week xmas shutdown, so looks like here you have no idea what you're talking about. But that's ok, all you Roche people are like that...

From someone who has worked at both places long before the merger

Roche also had xmas week, plus start at three weeks vacation. 401k was 75% of first 6% contribution. Do the math on the GNE, and you'll know that it wasnt better. GNE, no pension, Roche pension for life after five years. Very few US firms still offer the defined benefit that Roche offered, not even genentech. Roche Rx benefit for life at retirement (10 years service), genentech no Rx benefit So yes, if you want to quibble over "medical" 80/20 OK, without knowing more about the genentech options I cant really argue, but I do know what the genentech vacation, 401k, retirement, rx, vision, were, and they were definitely not better than roche.

I do give genentech credit for the great benefits such as doggie day care, beer bong fridays, concierege, wifi buses, being able to dress like slobs at work and meetings (blue jeans etc), and higher bonus for reps.

There never was any so called culture at dna, there was only excess profits that needed to be spent or taxs would have to be paid on them thus the lush lifestyle of the past. roches endless string of failures have never afforded these excess profits for that group.

You fool! That's called MARKETING!!!. Companies pay lots of money to 'advertise' on that list....not real!

Do the avastin study failures count as "roche" or "genentech" failures?

Well said and I agree. Genentech was crumbling before Roche bought them out. This notion of wearing blue jeans to work sounds really tiring and silly--like someone trying to justify their lousy job in a aimless company making hugely expensive cancer drugs so that patients could live a few months longer, enough to bankrupt them. You Genentech folks are soooo delusional. You suck. Roche made many more drugs over its life time that helped patients for a lot longer than your 20 some odd year existence.

WAKE UP. Your Genentech masters sold you off. Genentech is no more and few care about this.
