benefits package before hired?

Is it a new trend to send a candidate the companies benefits package before being offered the position. When I was interviewing four years ago the company that hired me did not disclose that information until after I hired. I am in the process of interviewing for 2 jobs and both companies have sent me there health/retirement etc..benefits plan. Why are companies doing this...it seems like information they wouldn't want to give out to just anyone
