BAYER - Internal Job Grades

Hello everyone,

I'm being offered a VS2 role in the pharma side of the Bayer business and was wondering how senior is this role within the organization compared to their internal structure?

- What are the grades starting from lowest to the highest grades?

- Is VS2 a director level role? I mean, I will have 9 direct reports in a marketing operations lead role.

- What are the good examples of a VS3 or VS4 roles? for my understanding..

Thanks a lot in advance.

M1-7 are the lowest rungs on the ladder typically admins, clerks, etc.
VS1.1, 1.2 & 1.3 are the next level up and will cover the more skilled workers, college grads, majority of the workforce, typically they have no direct reports. STI Bonus kicks in at these levels and LTI will kick in for VS1.3 and above
VS2.0 is middle level management, typically Sr. Manager and Associate Director. They may or may not have direct reports. Higher LTI
VS3.0 is senior management, typically Director or Deputy Director positions. Most will be responsible for direc reports. Higher STi and LTI kicks in and additional week of vacation.
VS4.0 is VP level
VS 4.1 and above is executive VP and goes up from there.

Very comprehensive! Thank you for taking the time to provide color.

I'm taking a job as a VS2 as marketing lead but will have 9 direct reports. They also decided for me to have a secondary job of managing what they call a Nucleus Team for Woman Health business and for that they will increase my compensation even further. That team has 5 direct reports. So we are looking at 14 people to manage here. I guess I am more on the side of Associate Director, any thoughts?

Also, the way HR explained me the grades as the following.

1.3 is associate director and 2.0 is deputy director. So i guess they weren't candid with me?

14 people to manage seems like a lot given that they are now requiring formal goal setting discussions, quarterly checkins for each direct report, two yearly reviews, and annual year end review. Add in the normal direct report bitching and whining sessions, biweekly team meetings, your own reviews and meetings with your manager....when do they expect you to actually get anything accomplished?

A vs2 is senior manager/associate director. If this were me I would tell them with the responsibility for two teams and 14 direct reports the position should be graded as a vs3 director level bare minimum. Or maybe they should consider 2 fte’s instead of trying to get you to do the job of two people for a sr manager rating.
