Announced this yesterday in an earnings call...
Deerfield based Baxter International has spent or set aside a total of $101 million in recent months to lay off employees, the company's leaders said during an earnings call Tuesday.
Baxter spokeswoman Deborah Spak declined to say how many employees in which locations are losing their jobs, but she said the "reductions" are occurring in more than 40 countries. Baxter, which makes renal and hospital products, has 4,500 employees in Illinois.
The $101 million includes the costs of severance and other support that's been given to employees and will be given to employees as organizational restructuring continues, Spak said. It's in addition to $43 million that had been spent or set aside this year for the same purpose before the third quarter.
