Hearing Market Chatter of JNJ Bid for Amgen

The Rumor:
Shares of Amgen AMGN 4.84% rose Wednesday on unconfirmed market chatter of a potential offer from Johnson & JohnsonJNJ 1.67%. The offer is reported to be $176 per share. Amgen is said to have hired Goldman Sachs to handle the deal.

Spokespersons for the companies did not respond to requests for comment.

Amgen closed at $148.05 on Wednesday, a gain of almost 5%.
