Usually if you have a small territory you do well with car allowance. Put some of it aside to pay down your car loan faster. If you don't own a car, buy something with 20,000 mi or so on it so someone else will have taken the depreciation hit for you. Buy something affordable, because you are going to chew it up in a few years. Also look for fuel efficiency. Hyundai Elantra gets 40mpg for about 17,000. Kia Soul if you want something that is not a sedan. If you are a car snob and have to have something expensive you will be loosing money. If you have a really huge territory (55,000 miles per year on the car), you are going to burn through the car before you get it paid off. Buy something used (Toyota etc.) for 6 to 8 thousand and run it into the ground. Good luck.

This is good advice. I have been on another contract for about a year and this is exactly what I did. Bought a car for $6,000 cash that gets 30 mpg. I take the $500 allowance and put into savings to buy another car down the road and the .19 per mile makes me break even on the gas.

Anyone have any news on training. The recruiter said that it was one week at home and another week away. How is that possible with two products? Also, the recruiter said the start date was June, but I have been hearing on the board July.

Thank you. I really appreciate the advice. By the way, what car did you buy that gets 30 mpg (just curious). I have been looking, but have not found too many with that type of mileage.
