Does anyone else have much contact with their area VP? What do they do that actually impacts your business? I am asking not to complain but to figure out how to use them in a way that can help me grow my business.

Z-rep here and I can say that in the case of AVP's, all politics is truly local. Some AVP's can be a great asset if they are good at what they do as it strokes the ego of most people when the 'higher ups' come calling. However, some AVP's are most adept at alienating people, they come in your area, make a mess and leave. Ask around, I am sure you will get an answer as to whether your AVP is a net relational gain, or someone that needs to stick to spreadsheets.

Here is what they do well: Wear pink shirts and khakis, play golf, act like a fool when with a customer.
