At the end of the day, 1099 reps are the best in the business

This should be obvious, but often is not.

1. You are your own boss (this is easily worth about 75-100K/year).
2. Your income potential is unlimited (unlike W2 where bonus is stolen all the time).
3. You can choose to not call of bad customers (not happening when you work for a company).
4. You avoid company politics in most cases.
5. No silly annual evaluations.
6. No crazy co workers stealing your work or ideas.
7. Your personal time is more respected.
8. Opportunities for creativity and getting better are unlimited.
9. Your self esteem will grow more, as you are not constantly berated by inferior managers.
10. You will have more fun selling, and that translates to a healthier and better life.

I can go on and on, but I won't bore you.

Number 10 is probably the most important concept to appreciate.

You get the picture.

I hope younger people will read this, and consider not working for companies.

They don't care about you, and they never have cared about you.

Be smart. Do your research and see if this is right for you. If you are not a confident salesperson, then don't do it, because you will fail. 1099 is for the best of the best, and don't you ever forget that because its the truth.

You only have one life to live, the last time I checked, so think about it at least.

Live long and prosper !

You forgot the unbelievable tax breaks the IRS gives you.

What companies are the best to be a 1099 individual for?

the "problem" is that the good 1099 jobs, well, nobody quits them because they are so good when you consider the pay and autonomy.
pharma/bio tech/device is for suckers.
Just network the best you can and work for yourself. I would say the best industries are anything selling into governmental agencies because there is so much waste and large budgets to buy.
medical is not the place to be right now. just look at the stock market and that will be a big tell. these stocks are all garbage.
worse, the people in this industry, are terrible at selling and have no creativity, talent, or heart.

Autonomy > Money.
Just make enough to live a comfortable life.
Sheep will be sheep, unfortunately. Working for another person or company or whatever will limit you, regardless of how much money you are making. The trade off weakens your spirit and it is not selling at the end of the day due to the mindless politics that are involved and the unfair division of labor between great sales people and incompetent management.
