Question, I am a Orthopedic Zimmer full line Rep. In the near future I would like to discuss comphensation with my Sr. Rep. Any advise would be appreciated. Question I have are; what is the industry norm and what are some consideration I should take into account that are not apparent to me now?

I have also been able to earn some new business now in my first year and a half. The last thing I want is to sound greedy being that I am only 1.5 years in, but I have been growing the business some. Our territory is almost 5mil with 4 guys.

You probably want to wait until the dust settles with the transition. There could be people leaving or being added to your team. If they have to make cuts in Q4 or Q1 you don't want to be the squeaky wheel. If you want to keep your job now might not be the time to appear greedy. But do the math, $5M x 10% (or so) = $500k split 4 ways, is their room for you to get a raise based on what the Sr. reps make? There's a little of funny math with the team set ups so step cautiously or shop your services.

Sounds like most 4-5 mil territories. Is your senior rep over 65 and ready to croak like most look these days? Guys just hanging on to a paycheck bringing donuts to the OR while others do the work. You should allready have a contract saying you get the new business you attain. Especially if you convert a surgeon. I would start there, if you get denied realize your gonna be the bitch of the territory for years and years. Do not sign a non compete and talk with your new business surgeon about converting with you also. If you can bring a surgeon over any company will offer you a nice little package depending on the amount of business. Always be ready to abandon ship and have the ability to get a side product in with your relationships you have. Get some income while you look for the best deal.
