Pfizer did the same thing with Parke-Davis division of Warner-Lambert. Example: Scientists at the Parke-Davis R&D facility--Ann Arbor, MI were responsible for discovery and bringing Lipitor to market. Pfizer closed Ann Arbor R&D site. Pfizer later bailed out of cardiovascular R&D. Cardiovascular disease is still the number one killer. Roche is getting closer to marketing their version of CETP inhibitor which raises HDLs. How Pfizer botched another HDL strategy--HDL memetric--another laugh. They had the opportunity to dominate for years to come the market of preventing/reversing atherosclerosis.
