Arthrex acquires Cardo Medical

I had a chance to view all of Cardo's products at a Lab in Las Vegas. The company was run by an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon and they put alot of thought into their products designs. They had a kick-ass easy to use Uni-knee, a beautiful patellofemoral replacement which was the simplest I have seen and they had a fantastic total knee with very slick instruments. The surgeons at that lab were all impressed and couldn't wait to get home and start signing up patients. I hope to be able to pick up this awesome line as a compliment to my spine business. I know based on what I saw, I can sell the hell out of it. Anyone know, arthrex's distribution plans??

the uni and the total knee are very good systems. the cardo side of the biz are ex stryker guys. the plan is to sign up consulatants at first get some clinical history going and wait for the system to take off. this has potential to be succesfull

Get some clinical history going? See you in 5 to 10 years then...

Damn, wonder what the hell else they are gonna try to cram into that already full bag. They're great at sports, small joint has no ASP, the shoulder arthroplasty product, well those reps look REAL UNCOMFORTABLE in those joint cases in the hospitals. Add a little large joint to that,,,,hmm. Those Zimmer, j and j and Stryker guys will fight to the death on that market,,,,,

selling joints is no different then sports. once you get comfortable with the trays they will be fine. joint reps shouldn't feel superior to sports reps. you can kill it in both arenas. you actually assist the surgeon more in arthroscopy then joints, joints you mostly work with the tech to get instruments and trays ready. arthroscopy is more of a two way conversation with the surgeons since everything is visible

agree 100%, if anything sports reps have more input on the actual case, rather than just being told what size trial to have ready. total reps just have more trays to deal with. you can be successful in both. You say sports reps look awfully uncomfortable in joint cases but i bet there are some joint guy that wouldn't know what to do in a cuff case.

You have got to be kidding me. Hey doc, wanna try a new anchor? What's different, oh I'm selling it. "Sure, I'll give it a try". Hey doc, wanna try my new knee? "Fuck off, I have been using the same knee system for 10 years."

Even though it is the same surgeons, it is an entirely different market... It takes years of waiting in second place with your shit together until you get that one small crack of opportunity to show you give a shit more about a poly exchange or explant late on a Friday night, than his regular joint rep does on Monday morning...

Plus, 10 ACLs + 1 Hip...

"Doc, we are out of the 3-0 anchor" - "Gee, I really wish you had that size"
vs.
"Doc, I don't have a size 3 femur" - "You are fired"

HA! i almost bill out as much for a rotator cuff repair as you do for a total knee. Sounds like your a bitter rep who is and always be waiting in "second place"

and btw, you probably have doc's that have been using your systems for 10 years and that's the ONLY reason why they still use it and that's how you make your living, so my question is, "what do YOU bring to the table?" opening boxes? get real, you guys aren't moving mountains either...

so the doc has been using your joint for 10 years. if you weren't the rep who originally converted him/her, wtf did you do then?

Am i saying that the billing is the same? no. unless you converted all the surgeons in your territory, you sound like an idiot. More and more hospitals are placing caps on knees and hips. so really its more like 2-3 acls = a knee.

You sir are an idiot. I can't wait until our total line is launched because I'm going to outsell all of you chumps in my area. You Biomet joint reps are weak, and everybody in this industry knows it. Before you start talking shit, get your numbers right at the very least. Why were you in second place for years? Second place is the first place loser. Adios!

Lets get real guys. I am not in the ortho space anymore, but once was and sold "full line" for Biomet (Spine, Trauma, Sports & Joints....not at the same time) Totals and Spine business is not converted overnight or even next year. The joint reps were far more clinically advanced to the shoulder screw pushers.... its a joke. Totals and Spine are driven on trust, products, contracts and the reps clinical ability. I was doing ACL's and Cuff repairs with no training, just reading the tech guides.....

selling an anchor is one thing, selling a system and changing the docs protocol is another. Can't really compare what you were selling in sports med with what Arthrex offers/brings to the table hence the reason docs use Arthrex 9 0ut of 10 times over biomet when it comes to sports med.

The Cardo press fit hip system DOESN'T look like a Biomet shell nor does the stem resemble a Taperloc. The 360 uni technique also DOES NOT mimic the Oxford.

Clearly the Cardo and Anthrex union is a match made in heaven since they pump money into the copy and ripoff departments rather than the R and D one.
