Are all of the support functions giving Hideyuki Ashikaga everything he needs to succeed? Excellence in execution in Japan starts at home here in the US. An emphasis on meeting the timelines for Japan projects should be our company's Top Priority in 2012.

Japan is an important market. Makes since to double check to make sure the support is there to meet their requests. Are you referring to the marketing, or regulatory approvals?

Bausch + Lomb Japan just does not have the resources to do it all alone. As much help from the US would be greatly appreciated.

This is a very interesting post. I wonder why the originator chose CafePharma to post this. With H.A. at GLT with every function head in the world, wouldn't it make more sense to reach out directly to those that could help? There are really only 3 people who would write this and you all have my contact info.

For B&L to have a good global strategy that makes sure all of the countries are covered for support from the home base requires the identification of the Directors that need to support these countries. Once that is done the Directors need to have clear objectives that they must provide timely support to these regions.

Now is the time of year that the Countries(regions) should identify what support they will need for 2012. If the regions are clear as to what support they will need in 2012 the Directors can staff their departments appropriately and put more specific objectives on their employees yearly objectives that include support for ongoing projects in these countries.

When the Directors and their employees are given their 2012 objectives that include supporting projects in the various regions they then can work to achieve those objectives. What the upper management can do to emphasize the importance of these projects is to put a larger percentage weight on these objectives. If a Director or employee has 50% of their merit raise depending on whether they meet the support required from Japan for example then they will spend a lot of time on the objective and may even work to accelerate the timelines. If the weight of the objective on the Directors objectives is low (5%) expect that there will be very little support and the timelines will slip.

If your country is ignored it will reflect in the weight percent given to your country in the objectives of the Directors and employees in the United States.
