Are the layoffs over in Rochester for 2013-2014?

Has Valeant confirmed that Rochester will not see anymore layoffs (other than the 100 layoffs already planned for December 2013) in 2013-2014?

Chucky Schumer got the guarantee. Did everyone else (management, employees) also get this guarantee from Valeant?

If Valeant makes another acquisition and makes it to add new products and find synergies between the two merging organizations then probably the guarantee becomes null and void. However if there is no new additional acquisition does Valeant have to honor this agreement?

Can Valeant make the quiet layoffs. Take out 10 employees a month (well under the radar of the reporting of cutbacks from the Democrat and Chronicle) and still be considered to be honoring the no layoff agreement?

What about forced movement of jobs to NJ? Are those considered layoffs or just job transfers to NJ? If there truly are no layoffs could there be dramatic changes to the existing employees job descriptions and it not be considered a layoff. For example move a research chemist to contact lens assembly manufacturing or a former development manager to quality or regulatory?

Seems like there will be many changes in the organizational charts, employee salaries, job descriptions, titles, benefits etc. regardless of the no layoff guarantee provided be Valeant.

I find this inordinate interest in Rochester jobs most amusing. B&L could have survived and functioned quite nicely - and certainly more profitably - without the bloated, cumbersome top heavy weight of Rochester before. Now that they've been swallowed by Valeant, the need for even 1 job in Rochester to exist is even less.

guarantee???? hahahaha, ask all the other laid off employees of the companies Valeant bought about the guarentees they were told right before getting booted out the door.

The initial news on this was that it was just the downtown people. Now it looks like it could be anyone. Or maybe right on November 7 they send you downtown for a meeting and they lay you off there?

Valeant gets one last chance to reduce the Rochester workforce and only gets 106 people.

Pretty clear who they will cut. Any group that is at historic highs for number of new hires in the last 7 years, multiple people with similar skills, declining need for the function as the last few development products are closer to FDA approval.

It's funnt to watch and read these posts by people who clearly know next to nothing.

Valent already got the majority of the layoffs it wanted -- WAY more than has been reported in the news. If you were in the internal groups in Rochester you already know this is true - which is why all this speculation is clearly being done by people who are likely out in the field and don't know anything...

Last I heard the number let go in Rochester was nearly 600 - and more is coming. You guys can speculate all you want but Valenat is running thier program just how they want to...

Well....coming from the field, we have had absolutely no communication from upper management since the first week of August. It would be really nice it we could have at the very least an email as to what is really going on. Communication is very needed right now and we're getting nothing.....

Not only have the layoffs in Rochester passed north of 600+ , but others who were not on the selected list are looking for and acquiring better jobs at other "stable" companies. Valeant will meet their goal of 800+ million, but also lose some talented people from Rochester R&D and Rochester Manufacturing. The environment is not pleasant !!!!

That's because anything they say will reveal what an f'ed up mess they have on their hands.

Have all 600 left the company already or are they still working until some pre-argreed on date?

So why does the Democrat and Chronicle as well as the official notice of the layoffs estimate only 400 people laid off?

Don't believe everything the D&C says about the layoffs. As usual, they only get a part of the story.

LOL the D&C - if you are a B&L employee and are hoping that the D&C will save your job then you had better wake up fast!

The reason that the number is higher is simple - for many people Valeant gives them a "glimpse" of their future - and they decide to "leave" of their own doing - not laid off, not separated - and no need to report...

There are many that their final day is coming in the next few weeks and weren't separated immeidately - then its going to get real bad.

Take a look at vision care -- can you explain who is running the show after the top leadership all "left"... Same thing in Pharman and Surgical - top leadership wasn't separated - they all left - and most of the next level down as well. When you are shown what your future will be it becomes an easy decision.

Such a waste of a great band and good company.

Joe Barr, Mo, Bill, Gary, George top leadership of Vision Care all still there. They must be doing something right or they would not be in the top leadership of B+L for 10+ years.

Wow - you are an idiot. Every one of of those guys is in R&D or GLOBAL - guess what their future is wiseguy?

Name me one real LEADER in COMMERCIAL who is still there? Who is running SALES AND MARKEING smart ass? That's right they all left didn't they? Why do you suppose that is?

You really don't know what is going on do you? Just keep you head in the sand - everyhing will be fine I promise!

I know every one of them personally - and trust me they are all looking and the only reason they are still there is that they haven't found a new role yet. Don't kid yourself - as soon as these guys find a better role they are GONE- just like the commercial team who alread bailed!

D&C also reported that Zeus is going to be completely manufactured in Ireland when there is construction going on at goodman St for the 2 lines going in there. So don't believe the news.

You must be new - this qualifies as the dumbest comment I've read....

Anyone in sales or marketing or finance or HR stick around? No? Why do you supose that is?

Why does everyone have to find new roles? What was wrong with the old roles? Valeant is still selling product?
