Anyone hired without psych experience?

They really don't know what they want. Managers don't even have answers to questions you will have for them at interview. Sounds as though the best experience was to be with Janssen or AZ, BMS or Pfizer. Majority of positions filled by word of mouth and promises beofre interviews started. Good luck.

I sold Dental equipment and was hired in March. Sitting here waiting for approval. Met all of my counterparts and have done most of the training with Account teams from across country. No product training yet. Should be coming soon though.

Everyone I met while at the interviews had the experience. There were several Novartis reps there from different areas. So I bet most people have sold in psych space...

I had no Psych experience but sold Effexor primary care, Had no hospital experience, no buy and bill, no experience on mental Health or Schizophrenia, Regional liked that I played college level sports for a major division. The offered me the job and said training will get me over the hump.

How many years of pharma did you have

I am with you on this, I sold a anti anxiety pill a few years back, no schizophrenia either but the DM appreciated my athletic background as well, D1 Big 10 athlete, Deans List, etc... I did not get the impression that the lack of specific mental health really mattered towards the offer, its more about the person and the leadership traits than the specific psychiatry background. We will all be trained like robots to spin and vomit the detail pieces, it is really irrelevant to the clinical landscape.

This drug will be administered via infusion clinics, some of which are either owned by hospitals or have an ownership interest. If so, you will have to worry about formulary and have income producing reimbursement for the hospitals for interest. Its not like pushing a pill to private practice. They should be looking for a combination of hospital/CNS experience if they want to have the smoothest transition for Abilify Depot.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda: If you played sports in college then you are in. They want a team like atmosphere and know that college athletes will give them the edge they need. One girl played soccer at a D1 school, had 2 years pharma experience selling allergy drug. she was offered and accepted.

This is very funny as if college athletes can't fail at selling. This division will be struggling mightily right out of the gate. They hired a lot of managers and reps that have never sold in this arena and the hiring RD's will be held accountable when after 6 months many territories will still be trying to find their way around the schizophrenia clinics. As the weeklies roll out there will be some major disappointment with the lack of utilization of this drug.
Good luck selling you mighty athlete!!

This kind of ignorant hiring is what got this industry in its problems to begin with.

It is not just one DM who feels this way, example galore. I can think of at least 4 of them off the top of my head who hire only on the jock or cheerleader factor....

I got an offer, i am not even close to being a jock or cheerleader, but i have great sales successes on my resume. I also have zero psych experience. This should prove to you that they are looking for solid sales people with proven track records. They want winners.

I was gien a neuro position offer. I have 2 1/2 of primary care exp and have been in the top 50% each year. I am a diversity candidate and the regional thought I would do great here. I am really excitted to start!

DM's are terrbible. No NS experience. One new DM was a PCP rep for OAPI 2 years ago!! He left bc didn't like size of his Terr, now is back as a DM (???) and already complaining how big his Dist is!

I'm sorry but I can't stand all of the negativity from those outside. The company is growing so apply again and you will understand .

Efficiency and Otsuka should not be in the same sentence.
