Anyone ever been fired and gotten another job? How did you explain the firing?

I am being bullied by my manager and he is constantly riding with me. It seems I can do nothing right. He is this way with a few people in my district but I seem to be his focus as of late. I am looking for another job but don't plan on quitting this job until I have my next opportunity. I am worried he will try to fire me before I can get out of here on my own. What do people say in interviews, if that ends up happening, to explain why I was let go? Is there a way to put a positive spin on things?

Here is the truth. Once these idiots set there sites on a rep and begin this bullying there is little that you can do to stop the inevitable. I've been there once in my twenty plus years and it was a tough way to live for a while. You have a few choices though. A. get very active in your job search and hopefully score a new gig soon and leave. B. Adhere to every little micro managed crazy task that he assigns but do it with enthusiasm and fake joy. This really confuses them and usually makes them see that they cant break you....kind of fun actually other than all the tedious prep it takes to make it work. ( BTW...the end result is usually the same but at least you drag it out a little longer ). C. Try to turn the tides by catching him or even reporting him for transgressions that you know that he did in the past. ( this almost never works but if most of the district hates this guy...I have seen a coup work once before). D. Short term disability for any number of ailments. ( I once had a partner being bullied...she went on leave the day she was to be fired...She made it the better part of a year riding on Short Term Disability. Its dirty...Its not ethical...but it can be effective. E. If you've got the means to survive for a few months...do yourself a favor tell him to kick bricks. Leave with your dignity and find a much better way to live. It's soul crushing to work for a place or boss that wants you gone. As far as how to explain a departure like this. First off never say you were fired. You left for either family medical reasons ( full time taking care of parent )...or a business opportunity that somehow fell through before it really got started...any number of real world reasons but just sell it as it was something you needed to do etc...I wish you luck my friend.

I will add a few thoughts on to this:
In the field don’t constantly complain about this manager or your situation. I had a co worker do this and it eventually made her look bad even when everyone knew this managers reputation. Reps are a close network and you may need this reps for leads and recommendations.

Document everything. I agree I have never really seen this work because HR is there to protect the company not you, but it may give you some leverage for a separation package. And that manager might just “surprisingly” get managed out at the next layoff.

I agree with never saying you were fired. It makes you look damaged. I have seen reps get fired for multiple jobs for not working but they always land on their feet. Lots of reps have job gaps now. Don’t tell anyone..remember very small net work.

sorry you are going through this! Best of luck.

All part of Biden’s “equity” plan. You woke?

So, I guess it all comes down to not admitting you have been fired in a new interview and hoping the old company doesn't tell them.

Unless highly unethical and low down...A company will not divulge that a person was fired with cause. Basically a person fired either needs to be truthful ( and not get 99% of the jobs they interview for )...or come up with a valid reason for leaving on their own accord and then why they are attempting to stay in the industry. Difficult to navigate but with some practice and self selling skills...it can be done. I'm a good example.
