As of tomorrow, the legacy Actavis severance expired and Allergan severance takes effect. Major changes in the number of weeks. A very cheap severance for a very cheap company.
Listen to yourselves. What a bunch of entitled fucks.
"Waaaahh Waaaah." They are going to "take away" payment if I get laid off and don't work but still get paid.
Huh? You have a job right now.
Literally the only people who worry about severance are those who aren't worth a damn in their current job and are worried the rest of the job market might somehow find out about it too if they lose their job for not working at it.
I swear sometimes. This industry. It creates a lot of weak, spoiled, and entitled people.
God forbid there's an earthquake or tornado. At your level of self-sufficiency you'd barely last three or four days.
I agree with your entitlement statements BUT in an incrediblely volatile industry the severance packages are piece of mind. Many reps aren't in major markets and these jobs aren't falling out of the sky like they are in say Atlanta, Dallas and the north east. This is truly and industry where you have literally ZERO control of your own destiny. It's been proven over and over again that no matter what your ranking is or how long you have been here, when it the time comes for cuts its a lottery.
Fair enough. Now look at your salary that can be earned while living in Tumbleweed, Arkansas. Not bad, eh? Now live within your means (or below them), work your face off, and save 20% of your total pay. An easy way to do this is take every bonus check and put it into savings.
You are paid higher relative to other jobs, but as another side of a coin must always exist, you have less job security.
If you look at every year as a "gig" and plan accordingly, you'll always be fine. You'll maintain the mindset to be successful in the job you have, AND you'll likely be prepared for your next job too, because you'll maintain your "edge" and stay current in education and skill to move to another job or another industry if you must.
If you can't handle the potential volatility in this industry -- it's not for you. Take your same skillset of carrying a bag and be a postman.
You won't even have to "close" anymore -- just like you hate doing now -- and no manager will give you a "below expectations" on an FCR.

This guy is a bucket carrying company stooge and most likely a PCR manager. I hope you remember these r***** posts when Allergan puts you out on your ass with two weeks severance. And what's up with the quotation marks? Jesus.
And as far as being paid more relative to other jobs? What jobs are you referring to? A new hire comes in at what? $52k? There are public school teachers that pull that much. And you have to be a complete fucking moron to even mention bonuses, there were top 10% PCR reps in my territory that got $5k bonus checks for Q1. Sorry bud, that after taxes is no golden parachute when you are out on your ass. Even if you do manage to sqeek out $100K so what? This isn't 1989 and a six figure income isn't a marker of success, it's a minimum.
I can guess a few things about the presumed PCR manager that I am responding to. Maybe first or second generation college grad, no one in the family attained anything close to success.
Got news for you, PCR manager: your still a loser and the fact that you are a PCR manager proves it.
Sure, sport. There's exactly two types of people in this world: Those that believe things HAPPEN to them and those that make things HAPPEN.
You speak as if you don't have a choice in your own goddamn destiny in life. Want to be a public school teacher? Go be one. What's holding you back besides your own weakness, self-discipline, and lack of self-motivation? What is it? Have you ever once, stopped to ask yourself that?
I can picture you. Overweight. Sexually unsatisfied. Acid-washed jeans, white sneakers. Receding hairline. Thinking, "I'm going to lose some weight tomorrow," as you throw back a bottle of inexpensive, barely-chilled White Grenache and a double bacon cheeseburger.
Your wife passes you in the hallway and you barely acknowledge each other.
Get off your ass. Go do something different. Life is too short to whine and complain.
Especially about things that have zero impact on your present happiness or financial situation. Your entire head is wrapped around a theoretical danger. Unless you un-fuck this mindset, you'll never have a happy and successful present day.

Reading through this thread, it's obvious to me that this poster is a kid that is a primary care manager. I appreciate the OP as I watch what changes the company makes ascit is an indicator of the thought process of the company towards our future and health as a company.
Benefits like severance, 401k, PTO, insurance, car, etc are components that attract top talent and professionals. If our company only paid straight commission and no benefits then what type of quality employees would they attract? Somewhat of an extreme example but it helps you get the picture. Look at companies like Amgen & Novo & Novartis they have every top flight rep that wants to apply for an opening. They pay well and bonus and commission and offer fantastic benefits so they get to choose from elite talent. Now look at Allergan, when we have an opening it's pretty common that we may not even get enough candidates to conduct first round interviews without advertising for a second and third time. Our base in Primary Care is less than Hospice sales base. So typically we interview college kids with zero experience or someone from alarm system sales, etc. This is not an industry to start to learn professional sales. Hiring those type of people causes the way prescribers to view our company less credible, less professional, etc and causes them to not value us. After all medicine is something that can profoundly affect their patients & their practice (business) either positively or negatively. Can even cause death so we need to make sure we have credibility, trust, etc.
Unfortunately now the company has very, very few quality people apply for DM positions and the PC DM position is basically a training wheels position now so it's just another hinderence to the company. Like 24-26 year old managers with less than 2 years becoming a DM makes it hard to take this company seriously both from an employer point of view and especially from a physician's point of view.
Could you imagine if you inherited $5 million and went to speak with a financial institution and they gave you a 25 year old financial advisor to advise you on proper investment? LOL. Well this kid has never been through market fluctuations, has never felt pressure of emotions on market swings, pressure to support family properly, etc etc but he's read some books about it. LOL!! What would you do if that was presented to you? You'd walk out and think it was a F'n joke and find a professional with experience & successful track record. No any diff than the way prescribers view our quality of reps and kid managers

Exactly, but they hire these young people because they're cheap. It's all about the bottom line and counting the last bean. Days of 55 year old experienced, sales people with integrity, reputation, knowledge etc are long gone. Welcome to corporate America.
Because the 55 year old salespeople who are still here don't have integrity, reputation, or knowledge. They work the system and take credit for the reps who actually do all of the work
The 25 year old PC DM is back. Yeah well those guys built this company so you can have a job here squirt. And Allergan is using an antiquated sales model that Pfizer and Merck used back in the early 2000s when you were in pajamas. Anyway that sales model is out dated but it allowed you to get your job for minimal pay. Did you know Hospice reps make more than you? Lol
Anyway, it's now a training position and hence it's not very respected
