while im ardent proponent of free speech, this bitter woman got what she deserves. Any clear threats or incitment of violence against an individual or a group of people should be dealt with in a serious manner.

Agreed although I would like to see what she wrote. Just someone's name is not a threat. Targeting someone for legal and lawful opposition and for election purposes is not a threat. When there are specific and clear threats of bodily harm, such as with the judge killed in Arizona, people should be prosecuted. So are they going to go after the pundits who have directed very specific threats against Christie, Palin, Bush, or even Limbaugh and Malkin?

I am concerned, though, with the witch hunters who can't tell the difference between heated opposition and direct threats. There are also stories of people being detained and questioned by the FBI where it is nothing but intimidation of free speech.

OK, I found information on some of her posts.

"One day, I will have my revenge on your seeking so much revenge on me. Jane, Tom, Matt, Chris, Steve, Monte, Eric, Vickie, Carol, Larry, Debbie, William (Bill), Mike, Penny, etc.," .
'I won't have to lift a finger. One day you are sitting in your office...kaboom!"
"And you know I won't even be the one pulling the trigger"
"Yeah, I do believe that they will finally get it one of these days. Someday, somebody will, they will be sitting there and something will happen, they will finally get it."

She stops short of saying that she will be the one that gives it to them. She says it is all about karma and a divine intervention.

It sounds strong enough for investigation, especially since this isn't the first time she has been questioned about these kind of taunts, but I'll be surprised if it is strong enough to result in a conviction.

I think the following posts crossed the line

In a Facebook post on Jan. 8, the newspaper said she wrote: "What do you need to have done to get all the current government out of office? That is why we should own guns to go into court to get my right to trial back."



and this

It could be nothing more than an bitter woman expressing her anger on line. but on the other hand, if something happened to the targeted individuals, people would say, the police didnt do their job investigating the threats.

It's a good thing she is being investigated. There's a history here too. A prosecuter brought his concerns to the police and there was obviously enough threat to have her held.

But, I am really concerned the murders in Tucson will be used as a witch hunt against the opposition. I still remember someone pulled over at the start of the administration - local authorities thought he was a threat because of a bumper sticker about abortion - and there was just no threat there. Obama has a history of using whatever means possible to silence his opposition and I think caution is in order.
