Andrin O. currently of NVD to become head of NVS Development?

Makes sense to make Andrin Head of NVS Development... He's track record at NVD is stellar...

So I read the headline of the thread that they would make Andrin the Head of Development for all of Pharma (NVS). After all, he was the Deputy Head in his previous roles during his meteoric rise to infamy in his current role, but that doesn't make sense since he has has, and is currently, presiding over the most colossal failure in the history of Development at NVD.

It does make sense to throw Vas overboard and slide Andrin in and make him preside over the mess as Head of NVD Dev as NVD is prepared for the slaughter.

He can do the same as Vas or any other Head of Dev is currently doing which is preside over the $200-$300 hundred million dollars / yr in totally wasted spend, which is NOTHING, and he can do that as well from Basel as Vas does now from Boston or his predecessor did from San Paolo. After all, he presided over the failure of NVD overall, from Basel as was his excuse for selling his house in the US, he told us that he told his wife.

So who cares if a ~ $4M / yr waste of breath replaces a $1M / yr waste of breath as the new NVD Head would probably force upon Andrin the indignity of cutting 50% of the Dev budget anyway.

Poor Vas, the music is grinding to a halt and there is no chair to take a seat in as the game of NVD Musical Chairs comes to an end. The other losers will be the hangers-on that Vas took with him to Development from Commercial as, like Vas, they didn't have any past experience in Development or the Newbies that Vas has since added to the Head Count at Dev since neither of these groups will last long under the Andrin regime with a much smaller budget.

Besides who would stat and work for the stunted-runt?

Goodbye old world hello new realities!

So when will this be announced? He's probably already "transitioning" into his new role as we speak and they're probably feverishly working on how to spin this to us as a positive for the future of the organization now that it's exposed. It just keeps getting better and better around here.

first off - does really it matter if this or any other rumor is true because we all know the real situation at NVD and at least one will be true, sooner or later. If you are waiting on later then you are in the Vas school of planning ahead.

Next - if he is "transitioning into that role" don't you expect it to be handled about as adroitly as the move of RNA to EH, NJ was? The only difference is that there will not be any severance offered this time. I want my chance back!

this will eventually be a big blow to the elaborate and costly ec structure now in place. why have it when all it does is spend lavishly on business class trips to ec meetings in exotic parts of the world making decisions about issues that have never mattered. the entire structure was a screen behind which they could shield themselves and remain detached from reality. with a new ceo obviously here to shut things down and ao moved to dev to unwind most of it to save money there is no need for the thin patina of attempted credibility provided by the ec.

This is classic "McKinsey Methodology". First, shake up the ranks so as many people as possible leave so that layoff buyouts are minimized. Unfortunately, only the good people leave at this stage, but all that matters here is salvaging the bottom line.

I'm surprised that Andrin isn't already in charge of NVS Development as it is set up today (when he was in the past, the position was rather useless as the development board had no real function; it wasn't obligatory to go get your projects approved by them). Ever since it was clear that Dan wants Andrin to become the new Joe Jiminez as soon as possible. No idea what he projects into the guy but Andrin lacks of almost everything you need for the job: experience in development (still), strategic thinking, common sense, leadership skills, ... you name it. But: he's Suisse and a McKinsey guy; it seems that's all you need to be Danny's golden boy.

I expect an inversely proportional correlation between Andrin climbing up the ladder and NVS Development's success, i.e. we will suffer from even more McKinsey BS.

Emperor Vasella's UnHoly sponsorship of Princeling Oswald has been obvious for years. The only question is how long Vasella has the horse power to pull Oswald through these failures while Vasella's plans are also failing. Oswald / V&D total wipe-out humiliating failure, NIBR festering pustulus wound about to erupt in failure with a pharma pipeline that is failing and the only way to keep the company in drugs to flog is thru acquisitions (see news and other posts on CF).

The most immediate news for us may be Andrin but the larger news to which it is related is the slow motion train wreck that is the overall Novartis project that is all Vasella's. Jimenez' efforts to squeeze as much profitability out of the diversified entity that is now Novartis may increase short term stock prices but the well is running dry.

I think that in the short run, Vasella will not be able to put Andrin in charge of Dev in Pharma as the stench of the failure at NVD will linger but it will be interesting if after a decent period of morning, Vasella will resurrect him in another role - he has already invested so much in Andrin I can't see him writing off all those sunk costs.
