And the layoff's start

Remember this is a for-profit machine making serious cash flow to appease shareholders. Angus doesn't care about employees. He cares about shareholders, profit margin and sometimes patients who, most often then not, can't afford to pay for the products we create.
Employees - FTE or contractor's are liquid. They come and go. God forbid there is someone tyrannical in senior management then everyone is effected. Lay-offs seem to be the primary reason this industry is staying afloat. Can you imagine Pharma going to Congress asking for a bail out? Maybe that's next bc if Shire conts to let good people go who will be around to get the work done? Oh, that's right...Contractors who toil and sweat under the daily threat of being laid off.

Brilliant post. This can not be more true in a specific small group in the R&D sector (you know who you are)
No one cares about any worker, even more so contractors. They are the only reason FTEs still have their jobs. If anything, contractors should be thanked for all the hard work they do when some (not all) FTEs slack off. This industry is shameful. You are right. All the good ee's are slowly quitting or being pushed out by horrid Execs with egos the size of Texas. I just had the displeasure of hearing our CEO do his schtick telling us how patients are his #1 priority. He must think we are all corp "Stepford Wives" nodding our heads to his fancy rhetoric. His #1 priority is making sure the Shareholders are happy, the company has a high proft margin and no one in Commericial does anything that brings up any compliance red flags.
