I am a device rep for one of the three big ortho companies. I have no college education and made 156k last year. My territory does appx 3M in annual sales. Am i loosing some dough somewhere or is that about right? On paper I am considered a "sub rep" but I basically run my part of the territory by myself. I just want to know if it's time to ask for more after 4 years in the business or be happy I am where I am?

Are you on call (trauma)? I'm not sure how sub reps work at your company, but from my experience, they usually do the work the full line rep doesn't want to do (run trays, on call, etc).

If you're not working long hours and don't have much stress (do you have a quota?), 156k isn't bad. But, if you have a target to hit and you are working more than 50 hrs a week, I'd say you are underpaid.

I was in device for 5 years and let 2 years ago. When I left, I was making 250k a year and barely working 40hrs (no call, I wasn't in ortho).

156k on 3 million in sales is 5%- that's very low in the business- you must work for Medtronic! If you're in spine, you ought to consider speaking with your doctors and see if you can move the business. 6-8% is the low end for most big companies except Medtronic- they rely on their name and corporate involvement. If you have the relationships, you could double you take home.
