Small molecules, my friends!

Please don't chase your tail with those antibodies.

(Reuters) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a drug to treat dementia in Alzheimer’s patients that was developed by Actavis Plc and Adamas Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Adamas shares were up nearly 17 percent at $17.10 in premarket trading.

The drug, Namzaric is designed to treat moderate-to-severe dementia in Alzheimer’s patients by combining in a single capsule memantine and donepezil — ingredients in two drugs that are often prescribed together.

Memantine is the active ingredient in Actavis’ Namenda, while donepezil is the active ingredient in Pfizer Inc’s Aricept. Both are in use for Alzheimer’s-related dementia.

Dublin, Ireland-based Actavis said it expects to launch Namzaric in two dosage strengths in the United States in the second quarter of 2015.

Adamas will retain commercialization rights outside the United States.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder characterized by problems with memory, thinking and behavior.

I could tell you more, but who would listen?

We have no interest in things that actually work, for it'a all about THE CHURN.....

That is a real pity.

What is Lilly, number 20 now?

It has really gone downhill these past 5 years. I wish I could say that I miss it.

Some great people but when some of my best friends left so suddenly it was only a matter of time before I did the same... some dishonesty there.

This is a non-event. It is not meaningful innovation to combine drugs already given by a caregiver. If the government pays for this, the people should sue.

Have you ever cared for an elderly family member? The more you can combine all the pills into the one, the more likely you will get compliance. You really don't have a clue, do you?

We should have a Day of Service in nursing homes, even private residences... it is a real eye opener. Plenty of unmet medical needs, and combination meds are one of them.

Bring plenty of disposable gloves and paper towels... not a picnic.

If we really want an effective AD drug, not some placebo, best to roll up the sleeves...

Symbyax is rarely given by caregiver. It is self-administered.

Isn't that the point of the combination drug? Less hassles for the patient?

It was not long ago when pharmacists actually did compounding.

I know it was taught in pharmacy school, at least.

The elderly can get very confused about their meds. Especially when often they were brought up to not take any pills unless they were sick. My how times have changed.
