Acthar Vial Price

Is the vial price now $46,000? I've heard several stories of field reps being told by providers that insurance company representatives are calling the provider to let them know that the vial price was recently raised to $46,000.

It doesn’t matter what it cost, there’s a 98% profit margin on this snake oil and are only 10% of new referrals or preapproved renewals are getting approved across the board

I've said it before on this site and I'll say it again (maybe someone will look into this). I sold H. P. Acthar Gel in the late 70's as an Armour rep for a few bucks a vial! How could it cost that much more to make now than it did then??? Hell, most doctor's offices kept a vial around "just in case". In the mid 80's, Armour caught hell for raising the price of Factor VIII just 10 fold, from 6 cents per unit to 60 cents per unit. In fact, the federal government instituted average manufacturing price (not AWP) for reimbursement of FVIII because of this. You guys are really lucky they are not doing the same for Acthar.

FDA needs to start talking to employees who have left. I’m sure they will talk. They left for a reason.

The FDA is aware of the situation. It all came to light in the lawsuit back in January vs the FTC. The company disclosed its process for pricing and reasons. FDA didn’t flinch. Real issue is with FTC and that was resolved through settlement. This is an old story opened up be a desperate whistleblower with a history (Sued Salix Pharma and lost). Podcasts and articles by people with an agenda

Keep thinking what they are doing is right. This is the ugly side of Pharma. They pillaged the orphan drug act there is no excuse to charge orphan pricing for MS, RA or Kidney Disease. It’s not orphan.

Instead of defending this crime start looking for a new job.

Greed by definition is ALL Pharma. I’ll believe that this is more than a woman who is looking for a payday when more of the facts are released. She is accusing the company of causing her physical and psychiatric harm just like her failed Salix Case. The drug price is ridiculous, but not a new story. The Greed is real, but not New. Old News..No Story.
