Abaxis, Idexx, Heska Ordering Help!

Hi guys, we are a used vet equipment dealer. We sell mainly used blood analyzers... abaxis, idexx, heska, i-stat, etc, etc.

We have alot of instances that customers will want us to order consumables (profiles/rotors) for the used instrument that we sell them...

Unfortunately, every time I try to contact a manufacturer or distributor to order the parts/consumables, they reject me because they say they "only sell to licensed veterinarians"... WHY IS THIS?!

It's almost like I have to argue with them to give them my business -- i.e profit for them.

Is there any way around this?

We deal with alot of international customers that otherwise don't have local access to parts and consumables.

Please help -- I would really like to be able to offer these goods to our customers.

Would we be able to form a relationship with a local vet and have them order product for us and then pay them for it??

Any advice and insider tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The simple answer to your question. These companies have
channel partners and it would violate the agreement with
their distributors to abrogate and sell to a private party.
You are in essence competeing with them by reselling equip.
which carries no warranty. Why would they want to help you?

We are not a private party, we are a business that would like to offer their products. The reason they would want to do this is because most profits of these companies come from consumables, which we will be selling for them.... so everytime we sell something, they make a huge profit....

I don't mind going through a "channel distributor" to purchase the products, but even though won't sell to us because we aren't an actual veterinary clinic.

It doesn't make sense to me. I am offering to buy products from them, i.e profit for them. But they won't sell to us because we aren't a vet.

Can someone explain good rational behind that?

Cuz I don't see it.

you should have no problems purchasing these products or reagents from a channel partner, since they are not pharmaceuticals. that said, you may have trouble finding a distributor that would open an account for you, with out a veterinarian, though.
