A WHOLE NEW KIND OF ROCHE STUPID

as someone that came here from a neutral area—not Roche, not Genentech—I’d say Genentech ppl have egos. They’re very lucky they’ve had great drugs. But Roche is something else. No young Roche people. And by young I mean anyone with less than 15 years tenure. A bunch of people scared to question, scared to do anything, bragging about pensions and lots of vacation time. Watching the sales and development go right down the tube. I am not a huge fan of either but Roche is what’s destroying the company. Despite the claims they “saved” GNE.

To the previous poster: You got that right!! The old Roche folks are paranoid and scared to speak up. They drive around all day in case someone is monitoring their every move. Having worked along side of these folks while at Genentech, I couldn't believe it.

Glad to be out of this organization. I think it will continue to get worse. I hope I'm wrong. There are a lot of well meaning people, but the culture is not what it should be.

Lets not forget the incredible laziness I’ve seen in the field breeds a gossip culture worse than any I’ve ever experienced. People that work hard are shamed and called “intense”. I’ve seen this so many times here. For working less than most people in any other field. Soooo many feedback questionnaires without discerning who’s truly giving solid feedback and who is just whining. It’s a disaster, slow motion train wreck. Sad to see.

Hey Dumb Ass,

So you want everyone to be like Gene douche bags who are in a position for 1-2 years and then get “promoted” to a new role. You have something against long tenured professionals who take pride in their therapeutic area and have great relationships. Let me tell what I see. You put these Gene folks in a role and before anyone realizes how bad they are, they move to the next role and do nothing there. I’ve never heard anyone bragging about pensions. Now you want to hear bragging, what about the long tenured Gene assholes with their millions in stock options? Sounds like your just jealous that you missed the heyday of the Gene stock and now have neither a pension or stock options. Your sales are going downhill because you DON’T KNOW HOW TO SELL!!! You’ve had products that didn’t even need a sales force. Development going down the tube? This is your pipeline? That’s what Roche bought! You really need to look in the mirror and just tell yourself that you’re an idiot and have no idea what you’re talking about. And no, I’m not a troll! I worked right next to you and know exactly how arrogant and pathetic you really are.

Whoa there Rochie. Better get that huge chip off your shoulder so you can heave-ho to another company before the ship goes down, (if you can fathom pursuing another job). Roche bought GNE for the research and then promptly squashed all entrepreneurial spirit among the scientists so they left. We were then stuck with pitiful Roche science that the ELT finally put out of its misery - after 6 failed 'blockbusters'. So, what's left is another Roche debacle. Once was a fantastic company in the 80's and 90's but lost its way then grabbed on to GNE to save itself from drowning but took GNE down with it. Good luck. You'll need it.

I love the divisiveness so present there. Us vs them is alive and well. 10 years ago the merger was announced and today, the sales force is still fractured along with management. As a former “Rochie”, I made every effort to adapt and adjust to the gene culture. The reverse merger never fully went the way anticipated and to no surprise, the sense of entitlement by both camps grew instead of finding common ground to work together. The biggest issue there is still the division between sales and non sales roles (CS vs FRM and FPM). Those who move to the non sales roles from a CS role turn out just like most managers, they forget what it was like as a CS and support the field on their terms. Cut some waste and fat in the non sales roles as well as the overbloates sales team and maybe that will be a wake up call to all.
For those of us who saw this mess coming and left on our own accord, life after Genentech has been a fresh start. Bill and Co are going to lay waste to the bloated teams that still exist.

Is the new company being called Roche now, or Genentech? It clearly sounds like Roche is pulling all the strings and changing the culture to the that of Roche, which makes me glad to be gone.

Its all BS. The terms created such as "Agility", " "transition", and so many more words are created for people to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Most the people are creating nothing but package it with a bow on it. Everyone trying to create value, lol where is there is none. Its all a big game! The only people who do something are the sales people who actually interact with the customer. That interaction helps to bring in the sales that keeps us in business.

Stupid is the way both Roche from Bazel and Genentech has managed this company with massive bloat for the past 7 to 10 years.

The unfortunate part is the senior leadership responsible for this trainwreck are most likely getting promoted...

SE management needs a change. I have been on Avastin now Immunology and it's the same people. The RSD is sweet to your face but stabs you in the back. The DM's are busy kissing ass and acting like they know things they don't. This could be a great place to work but it's too much of a; mgmt vs COS. so stupid. No trust, bad morale, everyone talks behind everyones back. SAD

And it's only going to get worse. I left awhile back after many years at GNE and am happy with my new job and company. No drama, treated with respect, no micro-management, and allowed work without all the B.S. that GNE has become. Don't wait - get out ASAP.

Agreed. Left while the leaving was good. Do not miss the dipshit manager, incompetent FRM and suck up RPM. Wouldn’t trust anyone of them as far as I could throw them. Life after gene is good and less bureaucratic.
