A Mind Unhinged

I would expect we're all tiring of discussing Loughner and would prefer to focus on the incredible stories like Christina's organ donation and Gifford's incredible recovery.

However, this one stands out with a serious look at his history and the gaps in our system. It is careful to not point fingers at the school to harshly while stating their responsibility in this matter. It's worth reading.

You keep going down this same path. However, the gun control laws are more than adequate. Had this kid gotten the help he needed, he wouldn't have been able to purchase a gun. Now, legislative changes I could support include restrictions on subautomatics, restrictions on the extended magazines he used, and to make it harder to remove stuff from records and history. But the reality is, the vast majority of gun owners are law abiding citizens and Loughner was going to find some way to hurt people that day.

"We will likely never know all the reasons he took a cab to that Safeway on Jan. 8, paid with a $20 bill, calmly got his change and then killed six people and wounded 14 others.
Bottom line. Lets not make it harder for these nuts to have guns. After all it is their second amendment right.

Cheap fucker....5 dollar tip is about right. Cabbie should have shot his balls off.

how do u propose he get the mental health help he needed?
mind u, most who have psychiatric problems dont even realize they have problems
this is a hard road, i helped a friend deal with his fathers issues last summer
i agree he would have found a way, but a knife or his bare hands would never have been able 2 do the damage his gun did. nor would a gun without an extended clip

The first step would have been for school authorities to take the video used to expel him from school to have him involuntarily committed. It would have been very hard for the parents to do anything, but the police and school were also aware of this kid's problems.
