Well Facebook is alive and Linkedin too....Novartis is downsizing and what else is new? Hey, that rhymed. Hang in there folks, sometimes things like this are the best thing that can happen to you.
I was downsized three years ago, the package wasn't bad...I found another job in a parallel industry and enjoy what I am doing and who I am work for. I was 60 plus years old and yes I'm sure there are companies not interested in older people but there are companies that are so concentrate on those.
Make sure you have a clean suit and shined shoes ready for an interview. Network, network and network. A friend heard of a company looking for someone with my devastating good looks, charming personality and brilliant mind and fortunately the hiring manager knew me. I won the Top Performer Award in my first year beating out every other rep in the USofA, BOTH of them.
Look for small companies my friends, keep you chin up and your attitude positive. Research the BeJesus out of any company with whom you interview. Know more about the President and Vice President than they will ever know about you. Research their products, put in the time and effort to become familiar with them and show them your stuff. You were looking for a job when you found Novartis...
You WILL land on your feet.
