9 Reasons To Bring Back Cocktail Parties

Bring them back? I go to one at least 3-4 times per week.

Must be one of those classic neighborhoods because driving home from one is more dangerous than walking home. I miss my pre-divorce neighborhood. People would stop by drinking a glass of wine and then sit down to talk and end up getting refills for hours. Then on Sundays everybody stopped by the Bloody Mary woman's house.

Found out last night during our weekly prayer meeting one of our members died....we were wondering where he was so I sent a text to his wife -- she sent me a text back saying he had just passed away. Just like that. At precisely the same time he would have been walking through the pub doors. Damn.

When life insurance pays off - it's an amazing thing...

I don't understand that statement......

I took her reaction as blasé. If that was the case, you'll understand. If not, I took it wrong. If MY spouse had 'just passed' and I got a call asking where she was, I'd have been a bit more emotional... maybe I'm wrong, I think most would...

A text? C'mon, DD...... the life of a friend should be worth a call...

OK I get it. She was still with his sons at his house -- he'd just been taken away by the mortuary. She was just telling them they needed to start letting people know, especially the "Wednesday Night Prayer Meetin'" at the pub we go to.

She's been his EX for the past 5 years, however, they were still extremely close -- we used to joke about they were the only couple who were legally divorced but still "married" in everybody's eyes.

Another thing to remember is he did not like cell phones and only used it when he needed to call someone. Never answered his flip phone or listened to messages.

I'm the same way with phones. Have a flip and a Magic Jack for a landline ($25 per year).

It was one hell of a funeral -- and cocktail party afterward.

I told Mr. Dump that's the way I want to go out, except forget about spending the $$ on a funeral chapel -- put it all into a party at the house and rent a podium if needed.

This guy had a lot of rental houses and his ashes were put into an old paint can with a brush attached to it. It was so perfect. The ashes will be spread at Pawley's Island, SC next month at his beach house.

Similar here. I have a specific amount set aside for wine and drink - even specifying my favorite wine. Also some set aside for plane tickets in for my favorite musicians and I know what I want sung and have a list of names to sing it. Whoever's left gets the job and they've already agreed. Hell, I'd have strippers but the kids would be pissed. Interesting idea on the ashes.

That's the way to go - I would like a similar ending - A party instead a funeral, with great music and then spread some of my ashes in the ocean and some at Fenway Park.

I want to donate my body to Science. I would rather be of use to Med Scool students, than rot in the ground, unless my organs can help someone else to survive. There are significant hurdles to doing this though.

I also want laughs from my friends on the lifetime of stupid shit I've done. That said, I must have "All Things Must Pass," and the Golden Slumber Medley played at my Memorial.

Big band music played before and after the service while pictures were displayed on a TV screen at the chapel.

Mine will be a roc band (people I know), it WON'T be in a chapel and there will be drinking and story telling and hopefully people will go home afterward and have sex.
