500 urine samples. Newbie here.

Hey guys,

So one of my friends who is some type of addict treatment doctor told me to get into urine tox sales. I am a complete newbie and I spoke to several labs and I am confused on if I should do percentage commission or a per sample. I am based in Illinois. If I do a % sample, which percentage should I bargain for since I want to make sure I get the best percentage or if I do per sample fee how much should I ask? Let me know

Our lab purchased its own specialty hospitals so that it is In-Network with all the major insurances which keeps your physician out of trouble. Our lab does Toxicology, PGx, Cancer, Pathology etc, all under one roof. We can do the interface with their EMR and would be able to provide a collector to process the specimens. --Doubtful you can pay an amazing rate on behavioral health or addiction.
Due to the nature of these patients, most are on Medicaid or uninsured.
Many state Medicaid's are paying in the ballpark of half of Medicare which got slammed this year down to the $200 ballpark.

What I'm saying is... Don't quit your day job! This 500 specimen account might pay you enough for beer money.

The rep never said that the patients were Medicaid or uninsured and in fact most patients getting tested are neither of those. If the rep was only able to get 500 and never any more then that is one thing but if it is 500 per month and the insurance is equal to Medicare or better which every PPO will be then Supreme Medical Solutions would be able to make him a lot of money regardless of what you think. No offense but perhaps you are just with the wrong lab or you are drinking way way.... way too much if you are drinking through the money you would be earning from 500 specimens per month.

I have seen reps acting like they were king of the world because they were making $250K a year. Actually if you analyzed their business they should have been making 7 times that amount but that's because they were getting ripped off by their lab which happens way too often in the laboratory arena.

You are right in that no one is going to make a dime on uninsured patients and the Medicaid profit is very low however the majority of those patients don't fall into those catagories otherwise the addication centers would not be taking them.

Most of these facilites are making a killing on these patients and their money isn't coming from billing Medicaid or expecting the patients to pay out of pocket. The reason so many of these facilites are popping up all over is that there is serious MONEY to be made from treating these patients. So use your commen sense and draw your own conclusions before assuming there is no money to be made on the tox testing at these facilities.

Did you figure it out yet? Either way could be really good, but it depends on when and how you prefer to be paid. If you have a lab that will pay you the per specimen flat rate, then that eliminates the guess work for you. Also, it can shorten the timeframe to get paid. More questions?
 




I am recruiting for a new tox company that is looking for a TX rep.
This client is paying the highest base salaries in the biz along with the highest commission structure. Base could be around 100-110k.
I am looking for a rep anywhere in TX that is producing at least 1000 samples per month.

You got to be kidding even bringing them up, what a joke. If you want to be grossly underpaid then go right ahead. A lab doens't have to pay the rep a low amount in order to be doing things the right way.
