Oh, come on, guys....Dulera is the next blockbuster! And adding Zocor to Januvia....that's the answer! This company is full of potential; Bob McMahon says so! And my DCO and manager also tell me how bright the future is.

What a great company. I'm so lucky.

Yeah, I know- isn't life great? ROTF LMAO

Oh yeah, you have to love those "motivational" DCO messages.....work harder, or else....or else what, PIP?? You clowns have played that card so much that nobody cares. We could give a shit. The truth is, it doesn't make any difference how hard anyone in the field works because the rep's job has been gamed to death.

The worst part of the whole ordeal might be that Dick Clark won't be as influential in getting us through the coming tough times. He has been a vital force for progress and a constant inspiration to all of us that are fighting to make Merck's future bright.

There are companies out there that have products which are nothing but combos of generics. Merck is now a third-tiered company. If it bugs you that your next product may be a Januvia+Zocor one, then leave. It may not be pretty or satisfying for your ego but at least it is "job security" and I am using that loosely.

Layoffs are coming, there is no way around that. My bigger concern is they start cutting pension payment and health insurance. I think they will do that sooner than later. Most big companies feel the retired people are no longer making money so it’s the quickest thing to do. I have older friends at other companies and it has happened to them. I hope it does not happen to us.

Thank you for that stellar advice. I can't wait to leave. I've begged for a package three times now, but can't seem to get one. I was honest on the feedback survey, where I illustrated the various ethical shortcomings of my manager, so I'm hoping that does the trick and gets me a package. I only wish I could have been the first to go; their packages were much more generous. At this point, I'd take a month and leave happily. You can have this craphole and the kiss-asses that populate it.

That's too bad for you. I thought they would welcome everyone who want to leave, especially those with tenure and at a higher pay scale. What you are saying is Merck would prefer that you leave on your own w/o a severance package? I thought we are cash rich. Must be the SP merger is costing us more than they thought?

Leave. On your own. W/o a severance package. That's exactly what Merck wants you to do.

Well, we don't always do as Merck wants us to! They can certainly lay off tenured reps--that is their right (i.e., "employment at will"), or "PIP" them if they want to get dirty. But for the reps with many years of service, who have dedicated the best years of their lives to this now, "has been" company / industry, it is best to ride the train to the final stop and collect whatever severance will be handed out. I wouldn't give Merck the satisfaction of letting them off the hook so easily by leaving on my own, without a package.

No one making it to 10 years should complain...."giving the best years" is BS you have been charmed to be able to give so many years or to never be touched by layoffs...Take the full pension benefit and move on....plenty will be gone without making those pension benefits and be on the heels of retirement.....they gave the best too.

Even the definition of tenured rep has changed with the new Merck. When I joined Merck everyone around me had 20+ years under their belts. They all retired from Merck eventually. Now 5 or more and you are tenured. A few years back it was 2 or 3+ years in my region with a ridiculously high turnover rate. Bad business when someone hardly knew their customers were mentoring the new hires or explaining to them how the local politics and physician connections worked.

NJ is employment is at will and that sucks, the good thing is age discrimination in NJ starts at 40. Once you hit 40 they must have a pretty strong case for justification. If your numbers are better than someone elses who they keep, get a lawyer. Under 40, there is nothing you can do. Everyone is under a 1 day contract. They can't say you make more money so I am getting rid of you at 40.
