2 weeks notice?

Is is standard to give 2 weeks notice when resigning? This is my second pharma job(was laid off the first time) and I have heard different things about reps giving notice but then were let go early, etc. Any info on how inVentiv handles it? Thanks.

Not in the contract sales world. You give notice on the last day you plan on working. it works both ways when ending , Ventiv has never given me more then a few days notice when contracts ended abruptly.

Good luck

2 weeks would be professional (don't expect that from inVentiv when contract ends though)

Regardless, just have all your samples and paperwork, computer in order....

I'd give them 2 weeks and just coast thru it.. most 'real' sales jobs would want you to leave that minute..good luck

I left inVentiv in 2007 and I only gave 1 week notice. They treated me so bad and my new employer needed me to start right away and I wanted to take a week off before I started. I knew that I would never use them as references so it didn't bother me but if you need them as a reference you should give two weeks notice. From my understanding, if you give two weeks notice in a letter then they have to pay you regardless if they let you go sooner.

your DM will thank you,, they'll get brownie points for orderly resignation...they'll get to work on a blueprint for rehiring .. in other words the DM will actually have some work to do for the next 2 weeks.. be prepared for the "I can't do ride alongs this week , I am just swamped with interviews" voicemail.

Original poster here-that is too funny! I have had 1 field ride with my inVentiv manager and haven't seen or heard from my BMS manager in weeks but I guess I will soon. The only thing either of them is ever swamped with is leaving voicemails and sending email!

If you were offered a job w/ a premier medical device company that paid you $15,000 less as a base, would you take the job?

Tough call. At least with Ventiv you don't have to really do anything. Make a few social calls, go to gym, grab some lunch. So I'd prolly stay with the easy job. If your under 30 then go for it!

That is a good point, but you should also consider the job security w/ In Ventiv--it's easy, but it's contract (TEMPORARY). Even if you actually worked for Pfizer, BI, AZ, etc pharma ain't what it used to be (ask those guys over at Merck!!!). If you can actually sell, a med device job seems like a better option.

working at inVentiv is just musical chairs, you will get laid off, you will have limited or no career growth potential..unless you are financially well off and just need a hobby, take the first thing that offers any real upside potential.

Why in the world would you even consider giving this shit, 4th rate outfit a 2 week notice? They don't care about you as a person or employee. You are a nameless, faceless temp that they will layoff in s a second then never return your calls and emails about future positions. I quit this shit hole 3 years a ago after double dipping on them for 8 months. Surprised me how easy it was. My DM didn't give a shit about anything so she didn't work and the RD didn't give a shit about anything but kissing ass and keeping his do nothing job, so everyone won. I only quit ventiv after 8 months of doing the double dip because I had meetings at both companies at the very same time, no way to lie anymore. The extra money was sweet but the best part was sticking it to the soulless fucks here at ventiv like they do to people everyday. So fuck them up the ass before they can do it to you.
