Kyphon

David Carr was on his 'apology tour', meeting with docs at SIR and the Fire and Ice rooftop, striving to salvage any of his IR business prospects. The big rumor from SIR is he's eyeing the acquisition of Spine products from Merit, particularly their curved balloon system to compete with Stryker's system and STAR ablation system, for integration into BVNA procedure, following the loss of Relievant to Boston Science. However, David faces a significant hurdle as top sales talent has departed, uninterested in committing to his two-year retention plan for a mere 2% increase in commission. Now that my non-compete is void in MN, why would I want to signed one of these agreements and be locked into this sinking ship?

Dang, can't believe you're sharing all of this on a public forum, but can confirm this is all true. They messed up by asking people to sign non competes. I think their plan backfired and they have a real retention problem. Just pay us more. It's not that complicated.

what is everyone's thoughts on adding emprint? Asking for a friend, definitely not a competitive rep

I think there is a lot of opportunity in soft tissue and we have great relationships in IR. That said, it is a me too type of product for our division. Neuwave has a salesforce whose sole job is to cover those cases. Our salesforce is too busy covering kyphos to really focus on Emprint, unless sales leadership gets smart and gives us some sort of aggressive spiff or increased commission percentage to motivate us to sell it. I also wonder what will happen to the existing Emprint reps. I'm impressed by ours and hope they can retain their jobs.

New comp plan makes it harder to make more money. More products added to the bag but paid at low commission rate. Not enough interventional help to cover all cases and help is prioritized for pain. And they wonder why retention is so poor.
