Is the Air Quality Safe at Rahway Site?

Bunch of whiney babies, the audit and water at the RY site are tested regularly and is just fine. It s a great site now with all the renovations, new buildings. And the Rahway area very much on the rise, up and coming.

The site is continuously spewing out stuff into the air all over the site. The ground was covered over and that doesn't take toxic stuff out of it, it just covers it over. There is a smell to the site. There are ghetto's surrounding Rahway, so if by "up and coming" you mean more smoke up in the air and more crime coming - then YES!

they routinely test the water and air quality, its perfectly safe. Stop being a baby.

Save it Mr. Joe Company Man

How the heck would you know what they do? Tests can be faked just like everything else.

Merck's Rahway location is considered a brown site and superfund site. Its very old and very contaminated.

I would not drink the water at the site, I dont give a crap what they say. I bring my food and water with me when I come in.

Do you also wear a special little oxygen mask and tank so you dont have to breath the air?

lol, Merck can’t rid of it because it’s almost a superfund site. It was around when safety concern was not an issue. If you’re young and stay for 5 years you would be fine. If you been there 25 plus years you took 10-15 years off your life. Everyone knows this already.

I have to agree with you on this one. I don't know how a highly contaminated site that no other company wanted to buy because of this, would all of a sudden be given a clean bill of health and have employees all move to it. The irony of a health company making employees move to a site like this.

They couldn’t sell Rahway because it’s in the ghetto. As I drive down Scott Ave, I’m reminded what a dump Rahway is… crackheads on every corner sleeping on discarded mattresses. I can’t believe I’m forced to come to this place every week. I thought kenilworth was bad!

First of all, they dont have a well, they get their water from the city. The PP that said he wouldn’t drink it obviously not bright enough to realize that. Second, unless you plan on digging down several feel of soil and eating it, your are not in any danger. The air quality is routinely tested, silly to think they would take the risk of faking test or results. They are doing a nice job renovating the facility,

Yes they dont have well water but that doesnt mean its good. Who the hell knows how old the water pipes - are they lead, copper, cast iron? Who knows.

As for the soil and other contamination, I was there when they tore down the building next to 34. They kept spraying the tear down to keep the dust down. Yeah sure its good for you.....

They cant get rid of it because its a toxic waste site. Who would buy it?

Several feet deep is toxic soil, well that sounds really safe.Toxins that are that close to the surface will make its way up and pollute the air and everyone who walk across the ground and take it home on their shoes. A toxic site is always toxic no matter if it is just 2 feet deep. The fact the air and soil is routinely testes is a red flag.

This is a great way of “creating a need” for current and future cancer medicines. Maybe employees can get an employee discount when they are treated with company cancer medicines.
