The call wasn't that bad. The call with our DM at the end of the day was a disaster. The meaning and underlying message of all of this was delivered. Big brother is here! Unfortunately, Mylan has fallen into rank & file with the rest of the industry. We are no longer a "different kind of pharmaceutical company." We are just like big pharma now. Compliance is going to track everything we do & if anyone slips up an inch- you're fired. It was just like this when I worked for big pharma. They'll track everything you do & start firing people to scare everyone else into blind obedience. Sadly, this kills any and all company enthusiasm. Trust within the organization will completely erode into "us against them." The worst part is that outside of a few fanatics, a vast majority of reps will be working just hard enough so that they don't get fired. Instead of focusing on the out come of a call, the focus will be completely on documenting it correctly to avoid "disciplinary action up to and including termination." Which everyone knows- if you make a mistake- you'll be terminated. Instead of compliance asking "should we terminate this rep?" They'll be asking "can we terminate this rep?" Once a precedent is set- they will follow it blindly to avoid inconsistencies because inconsistencies translate to risk. This is just like throwing out the baby with the bath water. Fear works for only a very brief time as an effective motivator. History has taught us that. All of the effort to curb turn over just went into the shit can. Who wants to work in an environment in which at any moment you can get a call from compliance and you're out of a job?
