Forced ranking is absurd

The whole system is a sham. Where else can you find a system where somebody ranked at the top in share growth is somehow at the bottom in his region because they don't backstab or act like this place is a big sorority house and act accordingly.

I agree with a previous comment. This "system" gives the company legal cover so they can do their dirty work. Let's face it, there are really no comparative metrics to compare people. Even sales performance is driven by factors outside our control (usually). I'm counting the days where this soviet style performance system is in my rear view mirror.

maybe ZS can tell management to cease forced ranking. it is completely counter-productive

What a great system! As long as the competition does well in other parts of my region, I will be ranked higher. For me to win, other territories in our region just need to lose. Too bad we can't work in a system where everyone in our region can be successful or if we all perform poorly, no one is rewarded. It cuts both ways.

GE who started the forced ranking system quit using it and will begin eliminating performance reviews.

Merck adopts the business-school trends from about 10 years ago, just in time for actual functional companies to realize the limitations and move on. Forced ranking, six sigma, etc. I'm sure you can add more examples ...

Worse, Merck pulls them out of context and applies them across the whole org, ripping out the system we were just getting used to.

Unfortunately, the success of Keytruda will make Merck think they have figured this out, when it was total luck.

Yes....total luck.... the molecule, ( my 3475- pembrolizumab ) was sitting on the shelf when SP bought Organon... and was still sitting when Merck bought SP... Merck had no idea... The credit Merck deserves is to realize what it was and get it into study protocols... It is a great product... let us hope that the leadership does not phuck it up...They are completely capable!

Forced ranking is so fun, better times for everyone
I find a fault and make it shine, just so I can kick your behind
Laughing daily anyway, watching you pack to go away
Ripping cutting can be fun, forced ranking will never be done

Yes, I remember this mAb before it was "MK-3475". Merck does get some credit for pushing this through so quickly once "discovered". I fear the current MRL won't deliver on the next immunooncology targets they way the Organon team did.

I hope you got some credit, maybe a bonus or a promotion, for all this ...

Everyone gets fired before they ever make it to retirement age. Look and you co-workers ages and you will know when your time is up. I would say after 40 you better watch out.

That's the fucking truth. Experienced people go to Merck and get told your experience before you came to Merck doesn't matter. They care more about the opinion of some 22 year with a Chemical Engineering degree than someone with 25 years of experience. Why did you hire us to start with?

Fired or laid off. Correct. Find a new company dick head. I can attest to the fact that Merck is underpaying their reps-regardless of what they might tell you. And, culture is definitely better at other places. The company bites the fucking bone big time. Get out. Use their time and money to find another company, and they are out there. I promise you.

    Now, suck on this

Large pharma companies benchmark. Forced ranking is used by all of the large companies. Get used to it as it is here to stay.
